Starplayr iPhone XM Sirius app

Since we've been talking about it in the iPhone thread, I got access to the beta to test it out and post about here. I just got the app this morning, so I'll post more details later, but so far the audio sounded good, the channels loaded quickly.

I'd kill a man to be able to beta test this thing, how is the battery life holding up for you ? Also can you do other things on the iPhone/iPod Touch while listening to XM ?

Take a look on Orbitcast there are some images and videos of the app.

In one video the guy says if you are using the 3G network it streams at 32K, You only get a 64k Stream using Wifi.

No apps are allowed to do that. Apple doesn't allow it.

That's true. I've been listening wifi for the last hour or so, 64k Stream, battery hasn't been charged since this morning and it's holding up.


I'll put up a pros and cons list a little later, but I'd say the pros are a longer list right now.

After 3 hours of listening, my battery was about half gone (I spent alot of it with the screen off). I spent most of it listening to Ron and Fez on the 64k stream, then checked out the 32k stream by turning off wifi. The sound stream was still ok, but obviously lower quality.

I don't have a Sirius account, but the sign in screen says 128k. Too bad I couldn't get that.

One of my favorite features is the ability to preview the stations before tuning in, but you only get a straight channel listing - by channel, genre, setting favorites, or search - even though it's part of the streaming site.

Pros:
Good battery life
Easier to get reception than an xm unit
Good sound quality
Lyrics at the push of a button

Cons:
Online stations only (no MLB, etc.)
128k stream is Sirius account only
Can't preview stations before listening

I was also able to get a slot from Orbitcast. Jon, did you know if you make some presets you can shake it and it will change to another one of your presets. It is like the shake to shuffle feature on the iPod nano.

How can some other Starplayr fans get this beta?

I emailed StarPlayr yesterday and they said they have more invites to give away, they said to check Orbitcast or follow their twitter feeds.

In regards to the 128k Stream for Sirius when you use Sirius's online web based stream it streams at 32k, for an extra 2 bucks a month you can upgrade to a 128k stream. Hopefully they won't do the same thing to the XM online platform.
