I was just in Shop Rite and the pallets of cans are piled as high as the eye can see. Asiles and aisles of canned goodness all getting ready for the most amazing time of the year.. The Shoprite Can-Can sale.
I plan on stocking up for the year, beans, mushrooms, tomato sauce, sauerkraut, and anything else that I might need in the coming 12 months.
Everyone else getting pumped?

The only can of stuff I buy is Rao's plum tomatoes. They are never one sale. I either go fresh or frozen for veggies. No nutrition in canned crap. God bless my mom she loved that sale. She boiled everything to death. Gotta love the Irish. :drunk:

I have never heard of this,
they do this every year?
Yes.
Sometimes twice per year.
And they run ads ad nauseum with animated Can-Can dancers and a parody of the Can-Can.
Some years are better than others, but if you've got the pantry space, you can definitely stock up on a number of items, from canned veggies (ew) to soda and juices. In recent years, they've expanded the items list to include things in bottles and UHP cartons (like stocks and Parmalat) during certain weeks.
How long before the first falling can tower fatality?
not quite the same but pretty neat

Look at their own example of cans you can get in the bottom left corner.
Pork and beans, sour kraut, beets and chicken broth.
I won't be in a rush to get there.

The presale has begun and it's just as awesome as expected.
So far we have bought 5 cases of soda, 24 cans of tomato sauce (sauce, diced, whole peeled), 8 cans of tuna, and two cans of tomato paste.
Sunday we'll be heading back and picking up another 24 or so of the tomato sauce and then load up on a few cases of canned veggies for the six or so months.

A buddy of mine works for Shop Rite doing their overnight stocking. He fucking hates Can Can with a passion. All the "Lordjezo" types come down there for their Creamed Corn or somesuch and he ends up lugging like 20 fucking pallets of cans.
Anything but canned corn usually tastes like crap anyway. Unless Soups and the like are on sale I'll pass.

Although this year started off with t-bone steaks for 3.99 a pound, which was amazing.
I bought 8 of them.
Going to go back for some beans and tomato sauce this week.
Really is the best time of the year.

Looks like a good deal. Also, a good way to get you in the store to buy other items.
The Haiti money donations should go to buy those cans. I am sure they will buy the expensive name brands though. :annoyed:
