Yeah, this shouldn't be a problem so long as he has his iTunes library stored somewhere. If not, uh, well, that's some poor planning, doc.

Some might even call it "malpractice".

The problem is that my kids and I use the same account and I usually just drag songs into the ipod plus about 1/2 predate my new computer. I suck.

If I smack him i with a with a rolled up newspaper, and rub his nose in the empty iPod, maybe he will learn.

One time I thought I lost all my songs because nothing was showing up under Artists/Albums/Songs.....etc

All I did was reboot the iPod and they came back. Wouldn't hurt to try it.

The real tragedy is that it wasn't the Grateful Dead iPod that went belly up.

you can have seperate libraries in itunes for seperate people. So sharing itunes wouldn't stop you from having all your music....just hold down shift when opening itunes..

Your new computer? You can copy music from your ipod to any computer using an ap called senuti...

there's no way 1300 gratefull dead songs would ever fit on one ipod.

The 160gb ipod can hold 40000 songs or 17 grateful dead drum solos.

Update
Reset did not work. But on the upside a lot of the songs are on the computer in various random folders and on iTunes. So I can rebuild. I'll just think of it as spring cleaning. (Did I really need all those gg allin songs? wouldn't a few be enough). The complete Van Morrison collection is the most painful casualty.:glurps:
I will, of course, keep everyone informed of my progress.

Why don't you keep your iPod library in a single folder?

I would bet most of these folders existed before he had an iPod...or the destination for his torrents went to a different place than his itunes rips.

I guess. I've always been pretty anal retentive with my downloads and they always have to go into the "right" folder once completed. Anything else would drive me nuts.

By the way, your "so edgy..." sig is hysterical.

Misti made that for me, and you can imagine how much I laughed when she sent it to me.

Yes to both
ive got about 1/2 of them plus a bunch didn't need to be replaced(what was I thinking on THOSE songs!). Got a few good songs/artists from my sons collection too.

if you consolidate your itunes library under preferences, it will copy all your music into your itunes music folder.
