Anyone excited for the Blackest Night coming this Summer? I think everything Geoff Johns has been doing with Green Lantern is just epic, the dude's a great writer. I for one can't wait.

Definitely, I find the new lantern stuff more mature....sort of like what brubaker did for daredevil.

It's probably the best onging storyline in comics today.
BTW, welcome to the board but your sig pic is too big. It should be no bigger than 300 x 100.

Definitely. Johns handles the GL stuff with a good level of maturity, which is different given the subject matter, but he pulls if off great.

It's my favorite Green Lantern, Kyle Rayner. He took over as the main GL a few years ago until they brought Hal Jordan back to life.

I am cautiously optimistic about Blackest Night.
Geoff johns is a great writer and I love what he has done with GL, but I am always concerned when they make major changes - especially since Green Lantern is my favorite characters/group of characters. But done right it could be a great event.

Yeah I doubt anything will really change though. Chances are they'll just beat the bad guys...like usual lol. I'm just excited for the writing style of Geoff Johns, and I just hope it's half as good as Sinestro Corps War was.

The Sinestro Corps War was excellent, and if Blackest Night is of the same quality I will be very happy. The dire tone of the "prophesy" has me a little concerned though, since the battle of light is supposed to end the Universe.
Of course how many times has the universe ended or come close to ending in the DC Universe...

I'm not looking forward to the pointless and unnecessary tie-ins that DC will surely put out to take more of my money.
For example, I read that Aquaman's status will supposedly be resolved in Blackest Night. What the hell does the guy who lives underwater have to do with space-cops? Nothing, but DC figures people will buy Aquaman if they make it a Blackest Night tie-in.

The connection are the Black Lanterns who are made up of the dead. The 2 biggest names mentioned so far (that I have heard) are Aquaman and Martian Manhunter.
Early info has said any and all dead heroes and villains are "fair game" and could be resurrected as a Black Lantern. However we don't know what their powers will be, their role in the upcoming war, or how the characters are changed by being dead and resurrected.
And I misspelled "prophecy" in my previous post. Sorry about that.

one of the comics at free comic book day will be blackest night #0. it seems dc is really riding the success of green lantern books and i hope the quality will hold up for blackest night. but knowing that it is written by geoff johns, im guessing it will be.

You're not reading them and Kyle's your favorite Lantern?!!
Actually, you should be reading them. They're almost as good as Green Lantern, and they are moving the storyline a lot. For instance, the Guardians just created a new rule, but the only place to find it is in Green Lantern Corps.

The blackest night story is starting to get some more attention in DC with the origins and omens stories and the new issue of the corps. Yeah, from what I have heard there is going to be some impact to everybody not just lanterns. The biggest thing I have heard so far is RE: Black Lanterns and that any DC character who has died could be resurrected as one. We also don't know the exact role of the Black Lanterns yet and if they are supposed to be evil or more a force of nature (if you understand where I am going with that).

It's hard to say. The "corpse" of the Anti-Monitor was used to create the main Black Lantern Battery and the first Black Lantern seems to be perennial villain the Black Hand.
All of that points toward evil intent, but the rumor of characters like Martian Manhunter and Blue Beetle (Ted Kord) possibly being resurrected as Black Lanterns brings some question to the overall motivation of the corps. Will they turn formerly good characters into "evil zombies" or will their living personalities hold sway? And in the natural order of things Death isn't really evil, but the natural conclusion of the life cycle.
Who knows?

I think he is probably the first recruit, although I don't know if he is the prototype for all Black Lanterns. Why else would he have been teleported to the Black Battery? Unless the writers are screwing with us and using him for misdirection.

Yeah, but Atrocitus thinks the power is within Hand, thus, he may be tied to the power before the battery even existed. And unlike the other Black Lanterns we'll be seeing, he's not dead.
Maybe he's carrying a parasite like the Ion or Parallax parasite, or something else. I think he's going to be part of the Black Lantern Corps power structure, but I'm just not sure that he'll be a Black Lantern.

Yeah, those aliens allow him to suck life force of the living to replace his hand. Of course, that happened much after the Atroticus thing, and his obsession with death was strong before.
Now maybe that's what the Black Lanterns will do -- suck life force to stay animated. So maybe somehow Black Hand is used to create the ability, I don't konw.

The final production rings are supposed to be metal plated. The version in the picture may be prototypes made from resin or something similar. I don't know for sure, but the rings pictured certainly don't look like metal.

You have been chosen. You have the ability to overcome great fear. Welcome to the Green Lantern Corps. To protect and serve others is now your sacred duty.
Save the propaganda talk!!. Ofcourse I was chosen. I was the best Green Lantern in all history. My former Sector was the most law abiding and full of order..... and what did the Guardians do?? They come after ME for following through on THEIR IDEALS. I trained and treated that GL lackey Hal Jordan as one of my own and he stabs me in the back (although I was proud of him when he went beserk and took it to the Guardians and the Green Lantern Corps---and who did the Guardians call to stop him? Sinestro ofcourse!!!). Those blue skinned Oan hypocrites. F you GL Corps and the Guardians' inflexability and old way of doing things. There's a new order in the Galaxy. So you better watch out.

There is no Orange Lantern Corps. There's one entity, Agent Orange, that kills beings/bearers of other rings and then creates orange light constructs that steal the identity of the victim. It also appears it could take the power of a green or yellow lantern it kills.
The constructs form the "Corps."

so hal gets the hand that has the blue ring on it chopped off by agent orange so he can have the blue ring for himself. but when larfleeze first tried to grab it off hal's finger it wouldn't let him. so do you think larfleeze will be able to harness the power of hope? what kind of effect might it have in combination with each other. will the ring reject him?
seems like a lot of possibilities. very anxiously awaiting the next issue.

Just as futher info, it is a cheap plastic ring, like something that would be found in a Cracker Jack box and is all in black.

Just read all the Blackest Night material up till issue 1 of the mini. I'm close to giving up already. Somewhere along the line, DC events just became a sick mess of death worship and nonsensical math. Thousands or millions of black rings? Really? How can I take this event seriously when out of the huge number of Black Lanterns, we will only see a fraction and they will only fight a fraction of the other Lanterns? It feels like the Sinestro Corps/Rage of the Red Lanterns all over again.
It just gets silly after a while when the danger level is ramped up to such ludicrous heights. It reminds me of another comic i used to like; Kirkman's Invincible, which evenetually just became useless character death and huge amounts of destruction every month. It's hard to care about the next world shattering event when there's another one already on the way.
That being said, I did really like the setup for the corpse of the Anti-Monitor and the Black Battery. Very creepy. And Agent Orange was a pretty good story as well. Also looking forward to the next GL issue where J'onn J'onzz takes on Barry and Hal. I think if they just kept the number of Black Lanterns to a manageable level it would come off much better to me. They are all such powerhouses that a huge number of them isn't really needed anyway.

I have a couple of different thoughts, but here's the leader so far:
It wasn't Bruce Wayne's body, and Nekron knew it. A couple of things point in this direction. Unlike the other Black Lantern "zombies," Bruce doesn't talk at all, and displays none of the memories/personality of the dead person. Also, the one and only time Nekron says Bruce Wayne's name, his name is in quotation marks, as if it really isn't Bruce Wayne. From what we saw, Nekron's purpose with Black Lantern Batman was to exploit the emotional connection the various resurrected herores had with Batman.

also, does darkseid's omega sanction transport the whole body back in time or whatever or is it just the soul that would use another body as a shell? i don't really know anything about the powers of the new gods.

Other than the Black Hand-centric Green Lantern that preceded Blackest Night, I think that none of them were key to the Blackest Night plot. Even the latest one featuring the "White Lantern" really wasn't necessary to Blackest Night.
I think they filled out the plot more, certainly more than any of the other Blackest Night tie-ins, but there were no plot points in those issues that needed to be read to figure out what was happening in the Blackest Night series.
