I'm no mod but if I were I'd change the NFL Season Thread to the NFL Playoffs thread and make this a seperate offseason thread. The coaching carousel has begun and most teams are looking to change things up. Lets keep those non playoff teams away from everybody else. If not lock this and merge it.

People make up the board. "We the people" its up to us to show everyone else how to make things run well here. Let checks and balances take over if they disagree.

I'm sure every team has it's insane fans that'll say anything when their teams don't win but some of these Patriot fans' claims are down right crazy :

I love the posts by the ant-Patriots fans w/ this being my favorite :
Not making the playoffs is a good thing. The Patriots organization has a couple of extra weeks to prepare for the draft, and Patriots fans have a couple of extra weeks to go fuck themselves.

Its been like Christmas all over again for my Packers.
First, awful Special Teams coach Mike Stock retires: (http://www.jsonline.com/blogs/sports/37018649.html)
The first domino on the Packers' coaching staff has fallen: Special teams coordinator Mike Stock announced his retirement this evening after three seasons with the team.
Stock's special team's units fared poorly throughout this season -- they declined in every category but punt return average -- and his future with the Packers was very much in doubt
Then hideous Defensive Coordinator Bob Sanders is reportedly fired: (http://www.jsonline.com/sports/packers/37069879.html)
Green Bay Packers defensive coordinator Bob Sanders has been fired by coach Mike McCarthy, according to a report at nationalfootballpost.com.
Its like this ridiculous nightmare has finally come to an end.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA JETS ARE FUCKIN AWESOME (http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/football/jets/2009/01/06/2009-01-06_bill_cowher_confirms_woody_johnson_snub_-2.html)
Bill Cowher, in his first extensive comments about his ill-fated flirtation with the Jets, said Tuesday morning there was a "very, very slim chance" that he would've accepted an offer to the coach the team, but the former Steelers coach confirmed that he wanted to meet with owner Woody Johnson to "get some kind of closure."
Cowher, appearing on WFAN's "Boomer and Carton Show," made like a politician, sidestepping a lot of questions. But he did make one definitive statement: There's no chance he will coach the Jets this season.
Asked if he'd take a meeting with Johnson if the owner called and apologized for not speaking with him last week, Cowher said, "No, not at this point. I've committed myself. I'm not going to coach next year."
Asked if there's anything Johnson could've said to change his mind about staying with CBS, Cowher said: "Those are hypotheticals. I can't answer that because I don't know. If I was going to close the door to coming back, I wouldn't have listened to anybody and I would've come out and said that. There's a part of me that is going to listen, but I have an option right now (his CBS job) and I don't want to close the door on that. Realistically speaking, there's probably a very, very slim chance I would even come back this year ... I've tried to stay open-minded throughout the process and I've been willing to listen. I don't want to come across as someone who is smug."

Oh, this is gonna be fun. The Cowboys cut Pacman "Adam" Jones today. And in their reporting on the story, ESPN dropped this bombshell:
On ESPN today (courtesy of MDS at Fanhouse), John Barr came on the air and said that Pacman Jones was involved in a SECOND club shooting back in 2007. And no, I'm not talking about the one in Vegas that led to his original suspension, I'm talking about a completely different one.
"While under NFL suspension in 2007, Pacman Jones was the man behind a shooting that followed a dispute inside a nightclub," Barr reported. "There are also allegations that he offered to pay an accused murderer to do this shooting."
Barr made it known that he was not referring to the incident in February of 2007, which left a man paralyzed.
"The information that we have relates to an incident four months after that, while Jones was on suspension," Barr said.
What a fucking piece of shit. The guy gets the chance to make millions playing a game for a living, and totally blows it because he wants to be a "thug". I hope this puts his ass in prison so he can meet some real "thugs" who'll have him wearing a wig with tits tattooed on his back in no time. Fuck him.

HOME
AFC East — Buffalo (7-9), Miami (11-5), New England (11-5)
AFC North — Cincinnati (4-11-1): Bengals won their last three to pass Browns for third place, and return to the Meadowlands next year, where they have lost seven straight to the Jets.
AFC South — Tennessee (13-3): AFC's top seed and a Jets opponent for fourth straight year but for the first time at home since 2003). Jacksonville (5-11): Also the Jaguars' first Meadowlands visit since '03, comeback win for Green & White, and '05, shoulder disaster for Chad Pennington and Jay Fiedler).
NFC South — Atlanta (11-5): Jets host Falcons, led in by Matt Ryan and John Abraham, for first times in 11 years. Carolina (12-4) Panthers, who dueled Giants for NFC's top seed, last played Jets at Meadowlands in '98.
AWAY
AFC East — Buffalo (7-9), Miami (11-5), New England (11-5)
AFC South — Indianapolis (12-4): First game in Lucas Oil Stadium against Peyton Manning and Colts, who had a strong '08 finish. Houston (8-8): Jets' only game at Reliant Stadium was '03 come-from-behind win over Texans.
AFC West — Oakland (5-11): Green & White, who enjoyed their Oakland years a while back, return to the Bay area for the second straight year vs. the Silver & Black.
NFC South — New Orleans (8-8): Drew Brees and Saints' prolific offense will be waiting in Jets' first Superdome visit since '01 Sunday night triumph. Tampa Bay (9-7): Jets haven't played at the Buccaneers since Wayne Chrebet "Flashlight Game" win in 2000.

I'm sorry, but I have to say I am extremely disgusted with some of the players on the Giants right now.
A report came out earlier today that said that Jacobs, Manning and Tuck all wanted Burress back. Jesus Fucking Christ! Are you that pathetic that you have no confidence that you can win without this asshole and would rather welcome back a thug who was a major distraction instead of trying to move forward and actually figure out how to win without him?
Here's a clue. Go out and get another 6'4"-6'6" WR who actually knows how to jump and puts in an effort on the field and you'll forget all about that scumbag quickly. Any WR who is tall and can jump can easily do what Burress did and more. I guarantee it.

The stories that the Giants want Plax back make no fucking sense. No with some of the WR's who are unrestricted free agents, such as T.J. Houzmenzadeh (damn, did I butcher his name, sorry dude), who are much better than he is, and don't try putting loaded guns down their fucking sweatpants.
Let his ass go. He does not fit what Coughlin wants to do. I'm too lazy to log in to my board character now, but I know one team he deserves to play for.

DALLAS -- Hall of Fame receiver Michael Irvin says he calmly chatted with a gunman in another vehicle after the armed passenger turned out to be a Dallas Cowboys fan.
Irvin, who was not harmed, says he was "very afraid."
A Dallas police report says Irvin was stopped at a red light Monday night in North Dallas when two men in a truck pulled up next to him.
The driver rolled down his window, so Irvin did the same, thinking the two men recognized the radio talk show host and television commentator.
The passenger flashed a gun. Then the retired NFL star heard one of them call out his name and mentioned being a "huge Cowboy fan."
"The passenger pulled out a semiautomatic and I knew what time it was," Irvin told the Dallas Morning News. "But he said, 'Oh, that's Michael Irvin, with the Dallas Cowboys.' "
Irvin says he began talking with the men about the team's disappointing 9-7 season and Dallas not making it to the Super Bowl.
"So we started talking about the Cowboys and everything," Irvin said in the Morning News. "Then they got back on the highway."
The pair eventually drove off.
"I tell you what, I'm glad he was a Cowboy fan," Irvin told the Morning News.

The fact that they fired Allen so quickly as well makes me think they already know who they're hiring and have them in house (e.g. Raheem Morris) or they might have an agreement with a GM/coach (e.g. Schottenheimer, Shanahan, Cowher).

I don't really want him either. Not because he is a bad coach, but because I don't want to put the entire defense through the overhaul it would take to switch to the atheletes needed for the 3-4 defense. Of the three Shanahan would seem to make the most sense, but in all honestly I'd be happy just to give the reins to Morris and just go through the growing pains.

You obviously know nothing about Raheem. He is raved about by players and coaches on this team and around the league. He was a finalist for the Denver job, and if he wasn't coaching here he'd be a HC somewhere else next year. Our defensive back play absolutely dissolved the year that he was the DC at K-State and rebounded remarkably last year and this year when he came back. The problem with the defense this year certainly wasn't Raheem. We had a team that had zero respect for the head coach and were only playing for themselves and for Monte. When Monte announced he was leaving there was an expected letdown. As for Dominik he is a great young front office mind. If it hadn't been for Pioli agreeing to go to KC, Mark would be the GM there right now. Some rebuilding is expected, but the Bucs actually have a great deal of promising youth at all positions on the defense, save the D-Line. The main area of rebuilding will have to take place on the offense (Gruden's supposed area of expertise), which has been shite since Chucktwat the Clown got here. You'd actually have to know something about the organization, but these are very good moves indeed.

For whatever reason he got in Gruden's doghouse and as anyone who follows the Bucs will tell you, once you are in you never get out. He will actually go out of his way to spite you like all of the sudden moving Griese from third on the depth chart to second the week that Garcia gets hurt. I'm not sure who the QB will be, but a novel idea (for this franchise, at least) would be actually developing a young QB. That's one reason I would love to bring Jeff Jagodzinski in here.

that was never gonna happen under gruden
My point remains is that how good of a coach could he be if the defense got manhandled against oakland? Their defense completely disappeared down the stretch and both of you are telling me it was because they all just hated gruden? Usually when a team as pathetic as oakland scores that much its because the defense is getting repetitive or tipping off their schemes.
Also from what I read he only interviewed for the broncos job and that was a favor to their QB coach who was retained to help search and was an old friend when they coached together in tampa, he was far from a finalist for that job.
Either way its nice to see tampa fall back to where they were for the first 20 years of their existence as doormats.

that defense was still under the direction of kiffin, not morris
the one thing i'd be worried about is that after they announced that morris was gonna be the new def coord the players didnt react well in terms of how they played

Tampa will be doing good to finish above .500 next year and if cadillac would have remained healthy you would be talking about how great gruden was.
The point goes back to the owners coddling their players and not doing what's right for the team. The players went and complained to get him fired, if the giants owners listened to the players the giants wouldn't have a super bowl win.
And yeah it was just the secondary he was in charge of, but it was ranked near the botttom of the league as well and only played one decent game towards the end of the season, ignore it all you want but it happened.

Those words would NEVER leave my mouth.
As far as the secondary goes, they gave up the fourth fewest passing yards per game and had the third most interceptions in the league, all without ANY pass rush to speak of which the Tampa two is almost entirely based upon.

a healthy cadillac wouldnt have helped much to solve the bucs problems
one main prob was garcia ... his fragile body (07) and fragile ego (08)
outside of galloway they had no real wr threat
rotating backfield with cadillac graham dunn
o line was horrible til 07-08
def getting older but they started to fix that with the last 2 drafts

I understand all of that but a strong running game makes a QB better, the falcons are a good example of that this year. Turner made the whole better and ryan hitting receivers helped, if they any kind of running threat it would have opened up the passinganes. That's football 101.
Even with all the accolades others are giving him theor secondary ranked 19th overall, its wasn't that great. I don't see him being the savior for the team, its obvious thw owners are letting the players call the shots, once that happens there is zero control. Players like clayton are just big babies and should have shut up and played.

yes but they had alstott before this last injury that forced him to retire
and once gruden got here he stopped using him like he was used before
they basically made him a blocking fullback b/c gruden is a egomaniac and didnt want him to run the ball or catch it
with all the trouble they had back there you cant tell me he wouldnt have been helpful from 03 to 06

Whats your point? Did he play on the team this year? Did you even listen to the fucking chicken shit comments he made?
If the glazers talked to numerous players and used that to gauge whether to fire gruden then that is a team that is in the shitter and it sounds like they took the players(all the players not just one receiver who is out the door) advice. Listen to the comments and what has been said, this is a shit move on the glazers part, gruden was never liked around the league(hell I hated him) but he won, in the history of the bucs only two coaches have had winning records:
Tony Dungy 1996-2001 56-46-0 (.549)
Jon Gruden 2002-2008 57-55-0 (.509)
All the others had below .400 records, even if he was a dick he got results most places and you can bet he will be hired in the next year or so and it will be funny when he kicks tampas ass like the rest of the league will be doing again.
Oh and having cadillac there may not have made a difference but in most places if you have a good running attack you end up winning games, there will be many gimmick offenses in the NFL but using the run to set up the pass always works.

Whats your point? Did he play on the team this year? Did you even listen to the fucking chicken shit comments he made?
I live in Tampa. I heard what everyone who has plays here and everyone who has left here had to say and that's the overwhelming opinion of the majority of of the players and coaches. Gruden was a shit coach and he got shit canned. He singed geriatric and retired players and ran off ones who could still play. If he didn't like he would sit you on the bench even in situations where your strengths were desperately needed. He refused to hand playcalling over to an OC even though his offense was consistently one of the shittiest in the league. He explained a losing season by saying "he didn't get to shop for the groceries". Well he got his lap-dog GM and guess what? The record got worse. He talked out of both sides of his mouth to his players, coaches and the media, telling them one thing and immeadiately doing the exact opposite. He would have his press conference after losing a game 10-6 and say that the defense needed to get better. The opening line from his last press conference would be hilarious if he hadn't said after every loss during his tenure here. "Now I'm not going to make any excuses, but we have had a lot of injuries". Well maybe if he was half the talent evaluator he fancied himself to be you would have depth to back up those inhuries. See: every team with a good coach and GM in the league. He's gone, I'm glad, good riddance. Go ruin another team.
Dom Capers agrees to become Packers defensive coordinator. (http://www.jsonline.com/sports/packers/37807024.html)
Green Bay Packers coach Mike McCarthy has landed the experienced coordinator he thought he needed to turn his defense around.
On Sunday night, veteran coach Dom Capers accepted McCarthy's offer to become defensive coordinator, a source familiar with the search process said. The offer came after the two men spent part of Friday and much of Saturday discussing their philosophies on defense and what it would take to turn the Packers' defense around.
That's a nice way to start my week. Welcome to Green Bay, Dom.

Having Ward and Graham splitting carries in the backfield shoukld make for a very good RB tandem. Personally I'm fine with McCown for this year. He showed flashes of brilliance in limited playing time in 2007 and he is a much better fit for Jagodzinski's offense than Garcia would have been. He'll have his oppurtunity to show he can perform in the starting role and frankly, outside of Warner, the free agent QBs this offseason sucked (plus I don't want another 38 year old QB, there is a reason Chucktwat got canned). The three probable first round QBs this year all smell like BIG TIME busts to me. The only QB in this years draft that I would even consider picking is Nate Davis in the third. Next year's QB draft will be very strong and if Luke shits the bed the Buccaneers will have their oppurtunity then. As far as a trade goes, Cassel stinks of a smoke and mirrors show, to me at least. I would have been happy if the Cutler trade had gone through but I'm pleased that at the very least they tried.

Cowboys reportedly release Owens (http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2009/football/nfl/03/05/owens.released.ap/index.html?eref=si_nfl)
IRVING, Texas (AP) -- Terrell Owens' days in Dallas are done, according to ESPN.
ESPN cited anonymous sources Wednesday night in saying that the Cowboys have decided to cut the receiver, ridding them of a big locker-room distraction but also absorbing a big hit on their salary cap.
The team did not immediately have a comment. A spokesman for Owens said he hadn't heard the news, and that Owens was traveling and could not immediately be reached. His agent, Drew Rosenhaus, also did not immediately return a call.
Just a few weeks ago, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones indicated that T.O. was staying when he said, "You and I both know that the one that you're asking about all the time, if I gave you the answer that you want to hear, then you would've already had it. So the fact you don't have it ought to tell you something. It really should."

I honestly think I'd rather root for a hapless team like the Lions than a team who goes to the Super Bowl four years in a row and loses each time.

NFL.com's Vic Carucci reports that the Patriots are "likely" to execute a trade for Panthers franchise player Julius Peppers.
New England reportedly plans to deal the No. 34 overall pick -- acquired for Matt Cassel -- for Peppers. Peppers would play opposite OLB Adalius Thomas, giving them an imposing edge presence. A contract would appear to be the significant hurdle left. The two sides should talk at the upcoming owner's meetings, but the NFL Draft would be the true deadline for a deal. Mar. 16 - 3:42 pm et

The (awesome) rumor going around is that this clears out space for the Patriots to trade Cassell to the Panthers for Peppers.
Seymour, Peppers, Mayo. That would be a pretty bad-ass defensive three. There's also separate talk of the Patriots making a run at Ray Lewis.
