No. I listen to Sirius/XM satellite radio in support of my buddies Ron and Fez.

I wouldn't dream of buying either of them an iPod either.

That would be like buying a Home Depot gift certificate for a Lowe's executive.

Everywhere you can use an ipod you can use XM.

plus i love the fact that I will hear music that I would not put on my MP3 player.

and I would hate to dl songs and put them onto the ipod just to KNOW what songs i will be listening to. Get lazy and never get new ones.

You can use both. Some days I listen to XM and some days I listen to my iPod.

And I switch up how I listen to my iPod. Some days, it's all full albums, some days it's shuffling the entire thing, and some days it's playlist.

Also, some people can't use XM at work (either blocked for stream and can't get a broadcast), but can use an iPod.

Not true. Try getting a sat signal on a subway.

Also on my Commute, if I don't get a window seat on the west side of the bus, no signal.

I record the show then put it on my MP3 to listen to during my next days commute.

I didn't take that work thing into consideration.

Hey big mexi, you do realize with overr 100gb of storsge you can put albums on it from new artists?

Seems absurd to have to state something so obvious,
I have a playlist dedicated to new music, right now I hav 5-600 songs on my ipod from artists that are either new to me, or new albumms from bands I like.

And unlike XM if I don't like it I can just hit skip and not have to worry about finding a new station.

I also have 60gb of R&F on my comp that I randomly sych with my ipod as well.

Inno loses to the ipod in my book.

BTW, I think Gvac's point only makes sense if you are not subscribing to XM and only listen to the iPod. I have to imagine most of the people here who have iPod's also subscrie to XM. So I'm not sure how owning the iPod hurts R&F.

I got an 8gb Sansa E280 with the Rockbox firmware on it. Rockbox allows me to use a 16gb microSDHC card with it (stock firmware only allows a max of 2gb). That gives me 24 gb of music goodness. I compress all my tunes down using the ogg vorbis codec which allows for better sound in smaller bitrate files (i use 96 kbps CBR) . Rockbox is available on the iPod in any version below 5.5, but I never liked iTunes and the whole DRM thing involved. I know things have gotten better but my Rockboxed sansa makes me geeky-cool.

This is my fourth Rockboxed player...I had an iRiver h320, a Toshiba F40 and a Sansa E260.

You can still create a Genius playlist on iTunes and drag it into the iPod.

But, yeah, it's much cooler to be able to create one on the spot.

I too bought my first Ipod last month. Sirius has ruined the XM music channels to the point that I'll listen to the "music choice" channels on TV before I will the sat radio music channels. R&F and the MLB channel are the only reasons I still subscribe.

That's pretty much what you do if you manually update your ipod. You have to import the files into Itunes, but you drag and drop them onto the player.

You set it up in iTunes (gotta have version 8.0 or higher) Once you do, you can select "Genius Playlist" in your iPod, and it will automatically create a playlist when you click on a song you have. Here's how to set it up:

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2895

It does work with all the latest models, including the Classic and the Nano (but not the Shuffle, obviously.) And it does give pretty good results.
