I generally avoid breakfast foods, but I love waffles. Im not a huge fan of pancakes (and before anyone tells me they are basically the same thing they arent.) which I used to be but I got bored. Chicken and gravy rocks (see coach's post) and If I have a good syrup to go with them sometimes I crave frozen waffles.

OK. This is the best waffle ever!... It's a desert for 2. Made for me first at Zio Michaels in Cliffside Park, by Chef Michael:
Waffle zabaglione (Italian custard):
1) Make a full waffle (4 pieces)
2) on 2 diagonal waffles lay down a mix of sliced banana and about 6-8 sliced strawberries
3) on the remaining 2 waffles, put a scoop of ice cream (I like 1 chocolate and 1 vanilla)
4) drizzle the zabaglione over the whole thing. (recipe below)
5) drizzle a little chocolate sauce (if you dig it)
The zabaglione:
Ingredients
4 large egg yolks
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 cup dry Marsala wine
Directions
Bring a pot of water to a simmer over medium-low heat. Combine the egg yolks and sugar in a metal or glass heat-resistant bowl and whisk until foamy. Set the bowl over the simmering water, without letting the bottom touch the water, and continue to whisk constantly. Gradually pour in the Marsala while continuing to beat - don't let it boil. Keep working-out that arm and whisk vigorously for a good 5 minutes, until the custard has doubled in volume and is very thick and yellow.
I hope you try this. It's a lot of work, but it's worth it.
I make this once a year (usually on valentines day) for the 2 of us, about an hour after dinner. (gets me laid)

yeah...
I use a stainless mixing bowl over a pot of simmering water... Just don't make scrambled eggs! Take your time, keep whisking, and watch your temp.
I suggest that before dinner, you have the fruit cut up and enough batter for 2 waffles in the fridge, at the ready before hand (just incase the 1st waffle sucks).
2 forks, one plate, enjoy!

i just got back from the grocery store with all the ingredients for this dessert. my batch of waffles this morning came out really good. it was alton browns recipe from his show. i had to make a few to figure out how much batter to put in the iron but they were tasty as hell.
i made a blueberry syrup with fresh blueberries, sugar, fresh squeezed lemon juice, a little orange juice, and melted butter. delicious.

joe, just got done eating that zabaligone recipe and it was fucking awesome. i took a photo of it and if im not too lazy tomorrow i may post. i think i may have cooked the custard a tad too long waiting for the waffle to finish. but it was my first time making it, and it can only get better.
my chick loved it too!
