So I installed a new HD in my XPS420 today and ran into a few problems. First my computer couldn't find it. Then I swapped where my new HD was to be plugged in with my HD-DVD burner and now it works wonderfully. But my HD-DVD burner won't recognize anything. My BD-DVD burner works fine, but I would still like all my stuff to work like it should. What the shit did I do wrong?

I'm confused, I've never worked with a HD DVD burner. A SATA drive should connect to the Mobo with a SATA cable. Your HD DVD burner connects the same way? I didn't think they did, I though the just took the ribbon.
My guess is that cable is fucking shot. Worst case, the connection on the Mobo is bad for that cable.

The cd drives connect with a sata cable. I have 6 SATA connect spots. and apperently only 3 of them are working.

Just a stab in the dark, are all your SATA slots turned on in the BIOS? I don't even know if they can be turned off.
Did you go on Dell's website with your serial number and download the PDF file for your comuter to see some specs and possible options for your specific configuration.

My motherboard can't use SATA 5 and 6 if they're in IDE mode. Check your BIOS for an AHCI setting, and make sure all your drives will work with it. I have no clue what this will do to a Windows OS. You might need new drivers or something too. I'd call Dell first and ask them.
