My comic book store went out of business. I had comics there that I knew I had to pick up but I didn't. Maybe I'm part of the problem. I haven't read any comics in like 5 months. I was still buying them but I have stack to go read. I drove past the store today and it was completely empty. Its sad. That place was there at least 12 years. Now its gone.

I knew killing off Captain America would have a devastating effect on the U.S. economy.

You may be right.

Well, except for the fact that the Steve Roger-less Captain America book is one of the best sellers every month.

That's why my husband stopped collecting, too many comics/no time to read them all. Can I suggest Mark's Comics in Valley Stream for all your superhero needs? I've known Mark for a long time, he's a really good guy and also always has a great selection of fantasy art.

It's basically a rite of passage for a regular comics book reader/collector to have their local store close down on them at least once.

That's a brutal bsiness to get into. Comic book stores rise and fall left and right. It's always been like that.

around by me I've seen a couple of stores open up in the past few months; with the economy the way it is it seems like a bad time to open such a business.
I bought some trades from one of them, they have a nice store and the people who work there are nice enough, but I'm betting they'll be closed by the end of 2009.

One of my shops went out of business and I had to buy my books out of a van in the fleamarket parking lot. Sketchy.

I buy mine at "New England Comics". They still have all that money Fox gave them for the rights to the live action Tick show starring Patrick Warburton so I think they'll stay afloat for a while.

Theres a comic book store in South Jersey where Im at thats been around at least 15 years. This place has everything, not just comics. But pretty much everything you could want to collect.

Until the last 5 years or so my city had 4 comic shops. Two are still around, one became more of a hobby shop/party store and the other went out of business. However, the one that went out of business was the most historically significant in that Dave Sim used to work there and run their newsletter.
