He doesnt play on the PGA Tour. He plays on the European tour. And he eared 8,000 dollars last year.
I might check out some of the Qatar Masters which will be held 21-25 JAN in Doha.

Its hard to do better than regular when you win 75% of your tournies, but yes he is a very good match play player. But if you make the final, you have already played 4 rounds and the final is 36 holes. Im thinkin less of his success in the tourney and more about how he chose the longest walk and amount of golf to come back on.
Alot of people think he chose this to come back because its the first BIG tourney of the year for World Rankings and Im sure he is gettin close to having those guys catch him. So he probably wants to get the points and keep his number 1

Match play is a whole different thing though. He gets in your head, you put up a 10 on that hole, you lose 1 hole. Its not a big deal. He gets in your head and you put up that 10 on a stroke play hole, you are chasing back those strokes all tourney.
And try having a lead in a tourney, checkin the board, and seeing Tiger just moved into second place behind you. Its all a mind fuck. Match play probably helps the other guys relax cause they are either just playin tiger or not playing him at all. In a tourney, they are always playin him no matter what

I dont think Tiger Woods would be back if he was still afraid to transfer his weight to his front leg. And if he does transfer but is tentative, he will hook it. I predict his first tee shot is right down the middle cause he relaxes on it and hits it like 90%.
I think if he had taken just a little off his drive, he would be murdering everyone and shooting occasional 59's

Snoogans
02-25-2009, 10:21 AM
so Tiger goes 1 up after 1. Perfect tee shot was followed by a nice draw from 166 that he wasnt really happy with and stopped about 5 feet from the hole
Snoogans
02-25-2009, 10:30 AM
and now he is like 6 feet left for eagle on the second, just a PERFECT iron.
Im tellin you if he can just find the fairway more he will be better

Tiger's swing looks great. Smoother and much more accurate off the tees. His irons have been ok, a little off and he has just missed a couple puts. He could be like -8 right now aside from the putts and his one tee into the water. I think he is gonna win the Masters, but probably not before.

yea but this isnt the Deutsche bank championship where the winner is -22 and less than 1 shot a day is not much.
Look at it more like the US Open, and you are almost more than DOUBLE what i predicted under par. For this week, thats a TON

That better not fucking happen, no way it will. I think Phil will have the crowd behind him, like the old days a little bit, with what he's had to deal with personally.
I think your score prediction is accurate though. Any dark horses?

Craig Stadler played a practice round that Monday and had a local fan outright laugh at him when he failed to clear a fairway bunker with a driver. "Here, you try it," Stadler said.
The fan ducked under the ropes, grabbed Stadler's stick, whaled away without a warm-up and proudly pounded the ball over the bunker
fuckin hilarious. Thats fuckin Tin Cup shit.
Dark horses are tough this week. Usually you would go with accurate guys at the open but most of them, especially with the rain, wont be near long enough.
If you have to watch for 2 guys who I guess would be dark horses after the past couple years, watch goose and Els. They have both looked more solid the last few weeks and both have the skills to get it done.

It also didnt have near as much rain and graduated rough like it does this year.
I was out on the course today and I can tell you first hand that the setup is going to be a PROBLEM for these guys. The rough is simply out of hand, and you could cartwheel across the fairways. Plus, the ground is already saturated- wet and even muddy in places. They're not getting a lot of roll out there, even on drives.
If today was any indication, the crowd will be even more behind Phil this year. They already all love him, and now the pink t-shirts are out in force. The man earns it though; he signed autographs for everyone (including me!) in front of a literal mob scene for at least a half an hour after he finished his round. Never seen anything like it except for Cal Ripken. Els teed off on the next hole over to almost no fanfare.
And rumors on Kim are that he's partying and slacking on his practice, and that's why he's playing poorly this year.

for anyone who remembers:
You guys asked me awhile back why Harrington was assessed a penalty stroke because the wind blew his ball on the green after he had addressed it and stepped back. I just came across this:
Your ball finishes on the green, 15 feet away from the hole. The course is muddy from last night's rain, and so is your ball. You lift and clean, then replace it. As you study your putt, the ball, which is lying on a slope, rolls about five feet closer to the hole.
Do you replace the ball to its original position or play it from where it stopped rolling?
a. Replace the ball to its original position and take a penalty stroke
b. Play the ball from where it stopped rolling, no penalty
c. Play the ball from where it stopped rolling and take a penalty stroke
d. Take a penalty, then re-hit your approach
(B) Play the ball from where it stopped rolling, no penalty
If the ball remained at rest for a few seconds, you play it from where it ended up after rolling closer to the hole. Once it is at rest, the ball is in play. Neither gravity nor wind-the forces that might have moved the ball in this situation-are considered outside agencies, so the ball is not replaced. If you are lucky enough to have the ball roll into the hole, you are considered to have holed out with your previous stroke. However, if the ball didn't start moving until after you addressed it, you are considered to have caused it to move, are penalized one stroke, and must replace the ball.
In the original situation, you must replace the ball if it was not at rest before it started rolling down the slope. Decision 20-3d/1 includes the "few seconds" requirement in order to be certain the ball was not moving. If you are unable to put the ball back on the green so that it stays at rest, you place it at the nearest spot not nearer the hole where it can be placed at rest.

it isnt the weather. Its how the USGA handled it, making guys start thursday when they shouldnt have. Those guys are at a huge disadvantage and thats why most of them are around par.
Its also because, since the course was wet, the USGA shortened the course by about 3-500 yards for each round. Had they not done that, you would still be way off. And no one knew they were gonna do that til the tourney started

I disagree that he offers zero insight. First, you know when he's pissed or happy with his game. So it's not like he's a complete robot.
Second, a large part of this is the fact that he's focused on the game and just isn't the player to do the crowd stuff. He's not a crowd person in that way.
But from everything I've read, he's more of a guys' guy and great in the clubhouse than Phil has ever been.

Exactly. Tiger doesn't "play" the camera and crowd when he's playing. He's into the course and his game. He's so focussed, that it's like he doesn't even realize the crowd or cameras are there. And that's why he's as good as he is.

Phil plays the game and the crowd and camera. Meanwhile, he's more likely to choke than Tiger ever could be.

I play golf because of Tiger Woods. The first time i picked up a golf club to even go hit at the range was cause I saw this 17 year old Tiger Woods guy playin as an amatuer in all these tournies and playin like he was as good as any of those guys.
Maybe he is like a machine, but thats what I want. An exciting machine who just tears shit up and leaves people broken who tried to play along side of him. Like Jordan did.
Phil leaves himself broken when he hooks balls into the woods

You have to win to get any exemptions to other majors and to the PGA tour. Top 15 he gets to play in next year's US Open.
He may still have some exemptions from the major he won but I don't know

Why is that stupid? you are gonna decide an entire major on 1 hole so that 1 off shot could cost you the whole thing?
Id much rather see it be more fair. British Open does it the best, 4 hole playoff, but sudden death for a major is a joke

I've read that it's a similar dynamic. But, according to what I've read, there are a couple of diffrences.
First, Arnie was a much better player and more dominant than Phil was.
Second, Tiger's more charismatic than Jack. I think Tiger gets a lot of people cheering for him because of his passion and the way it comes out (the cursing if he screws up and the fist pumps when he makes a great shot.

I agree with you -- the 4 hole playoff that the British and the PGA use (it might be 3 holes in the PGA, come to think of it ) -- is the best.
18 holes, though, is just too damn long.

Quick poll: rank your preference in the majors.
Here's mine:
1. Masters. Augusta, baby. The green fucking jacket. Also, the setup of the course allows for dramatic charges for the title, unlike the sadistic US Open courses, usually.
2. The US Open. I do like this tournament a lot, but, as I noted above, the courses are usually set up to be so brutal that the tournament at the end turns into pure survival; you aren't so much trying to win as you are trying not to blow it. Like Ol' Hefty just did on 15 with an ugly three-put.
3. The British Open. I like this one a lot because it's cool to see those link-style courses (even if some of them are just butt-ass ugly), but the same criticism I have of the US Open applies here: it can turn into just trying to hold on. Plus, the time difference means that if I'm not up first thing in the morning on a weekday morning (which ain't gonna happen), I won't see much of it.
4. The PGA Championship. My least favorite because it seems the least like a major to me. It just kinda seems like any other PGA Tour stop you see the rest of the year, with more cash. It just is kinda...there.

I'd flip the U.S. Open and the Open (yes, I decided to be an elitist douche and call it the open). Masters, Open, U.S. Open, and PGA.
And Ryder Cup would fit in after the Masters in terms of overall events.

the british depends where it plays, and the weather. They dont try to make the course harder like the USGA does.
1- US Open - Toughest one, takes every shot to win. Every winner had to do everything well to win. Plus it gives you a chance to see guys hit some shots just like you would.
2- the Masters. tough to put it second, especially if the wind is up there. But its always the same course, and no matter how amazing that course is, its not as cool as gettin to see how different the US Open host course plays from what it normally would play.
3 - British Open - Would be higher except its on SUPER fuckin early in the morning.
4- Not a bad one, but sits right after the WGC Bridgestone and right before the playoffs, so there is a huge tourney every week at that point. Kinda takes a bit away from the excitement

I think the wife thing is why im not rooting against him, mostly.
From what I hear, when he is off camera and not in front of the paid fans, he is a real stuck up douche and acts like he is better than people. This is what I hear. i never met him.
Most Golfers who play on a high level are like that. Most people though that about Davis Love III but he's the complete opposite.
And then there's Tom Lehman. He seems like a nice guy and is a very religious man (even has a fish on his bag) but I saw him totally lose his shit and beat the hell out of his golf bag in a parking lot at last years US open qualifier.
This i find the opposite. Tiger acts like most people do. They dont want you to know too much about that, its not really any of your business. he isnt a bad guy. he is nice to people off the course, and he doesnt seem to be pretending he is anything he isnt. but he is there for all business, and sometimes you wanna keep shit a bit more private.
Phil doesn't say much more than Tiger does when he talks, he just puts it in a more happy tone.
Tiger takes pictures of his shits and sends them to Elin so he's ok in my book.

I'm just thinking that if the later part of the first round didn't get an easier course, you probably would have seen lower scores around -2 to even to win.
