We've all come to learn every family has their own unique way of celebrating the holidays.

For as long as I can remember my family sang the 12 days of christmas on Christmas Eve. Well, that was when we use to all gather at my aunts: do the seven fishes and midnight mass thing. We also got into the habit of singing Happy Birthday to the Baby Jesus at exactly midnight. I don't know who or where it started but whenever we'd do this, any non-family who joined us in the festivities thought it was weird but cute. This is something my parents still like to do even when our holidays are quieter. My father puts the Baby Jesus in the manger and we all have to sing Happy Birthday to it.

Certain Homemade xmas ornaments have to be on the tree...Ie the Sputnick replica made of pipe cleaners and a styrofoam ball, my dad made on his and mom's first xmas. A statue that looks like our current dog in the Nativity set.

What fish do you have for 7 fishes? I have heard of weird stuff like Jellyfish and Blow fish to the sad anchovies, sardines, and canned tuna.

Happy Birthday dear Jesus....
No weird traditions per say but we do still make my uncle and my now 21 year old cousin put up luminaries in the front yard. It was cute when my cousin was 5, now it just pisses everyone off.
I also go to the movies with my best friend every x-mas night.

Not really weird....
but when I was growing up it was a present FREE FOR ALL. Everyone opening real crazy and all at once.
Now at dave's house we all have to stop what we are doing and pay full attention to whomever is opening the gift (we are all adults mind you) and clap for each one.
It's really awkward, but at the end of the day its kinda funny to go home thinking you just clapped for toaster oven liners and table linens.

I had my first wet dream on Christmas night when I was 12 years old. Every year since I punch the clown right before I go to bed to commemorate the momentous occasion.

My family's tradition:
We all get stressed out and do a lot of shopping for things that no-one wants. Then on Christmas Eve we exchange gifts, a big argument gets started, and someone breaks a piece of furniture. When the bleeding stops, we all sit quietly sipping cheap whiskey, each of us determined to never celebrate Christamas again....
Until next year...

It is like that when we go to Amy's Aunt Sue's House for Christmas (even though I missed this years party), but they go around the room and open the presents paying attention to one at a time to each person and their gifts with applause and laughs too.
My family in general is kind've a free for all. It's handing one another the gifts we go each other and then it seems like we go into our territorial areas with our bounty of gifts and just open them up. For several minutes it's madness because everyone is opening and reacting and thanking one another it can get quite loud at times.
