why do medical doctors get special license plates?
do they have different rules of driving to follow?
why dont other professions get special plates?
why cant doctors get special privileges for other things? (they could cut lines in banks and supermarkets)

That was back from when Dr.'s made house calls.
Or if they have to park in front of the hospital for an emergency.
All things of the past, my friend. Now it is just a perk.
My friend has special plates for emergencies. WB

This is what I have to deal with down here. They park wherever they want, and no tickets for them !!

when I worked on the road I used to have a sign I hung in the window that said "Emergency Service", it was just as good as MD Plates.

the whole reason i was thinking about this is because i was behind this guy with md plates and he was driving like a maniac. not fast, just poorly, he was all over the place.
but why is it ok for him to drive like that just because hes a doctor? we dont even know if hes a good doctor. All we know is that he paid for some extra schooling.
in this way our society is a lot like scientology. the more money you put into colleges and universities the more status you have and the more crap you can get away with. meanwhile many of these people are incompetent morons who know how to answer standardized questions and write bland book reports.
One big benefit I can see from my vantage point would be parking on a medical campus. Doctors can honestly be in situations that demand they have quick and easy access to the facility and need the identification distinction for the parking they are assigned.

We do not have special plates here. Note: I am not a MD but I was a "medical professional" and got out of a ticket once because a patient of mine was in the ER and they could not do much until I got there.
I do not think because of my education I deserve more, most of the time in public you would think I was a scrub. But, I do have DV plates (disabled veteran) and I do get a few privileges for having these plates. I do deserve it because I served this country and it's people and got injured doing so.

you deserve the plates. you paid for them with your service and your body. i only dont like it when people's only payment is cash. Experience and actions should earn us privilege, not just money

I agree with you and I also get pissed at the obvious abuse of handicap plates or tags. And thank you.

And you sir, can park in my driveway anytime you like. (without asking)
Thank you. We owe you one.

im thinking now that the u.s. really uses the 'driving experience' as leverage in a lot of different fields.
obviously drs and the handicapped have special parking rules. cops and firemen can drive fast. taxis can drive crazy. delivery guys can park anywhere. no punishment.
also, we take driving privileges away for non driving offenses. you can missed payments on your insurance and your drivers license can be revoked. if you park poorly, they take your whole car away.
i think its weird that theyll take away your ability to drive, but not to travel. driving is such a right in this country, for a country based on freedom, driving is not a part of it, why is driving such a privilege?

For about 5 years I had EMT plates in Jersey. Sweet because the local cops rarely gave me a hard time when I parked in front of the Firehouse (not in front of the bays).
Sucked because every accident I saw I had to pull over or risk being sued for "Failure to Act". That said, when I worked at the beach, We hated the Doctors from New York who used to pull their cars up onto the grass in front of the beach, and say they had Doctor's tags. They were pretty quickly towed.
I had seen "Clergy" Tags in some states..and thought..Why do priests need to drive a Ferrari?

Yes you do. And thanks for keeping my kids safe everyday.
Drivers with "DV" tags always get the right of way with me.

Back when I was a paramedic I refused to even apply the sticker to my window. In many states the good Samaritan law only carried so far and it sucks to be you if some family member is pissed.

I never did either until I became an Officer of my Squad and had to to get the Red Light. (I did not want the office, I was voted in because I missed the meeting and was the seniormost person in the squad who was not yet an officer).

One time a guy with md plates cut me off badly. I got so mad I chased him down and caught him at a red light. He said he was sorry but had an emergency at the hospital. Funny he was going away from the hospital. I think those doctors just use them as an excuse to drive like ass holes.

I've never seen one, and this place is crawling with doctors. Maybe it's not a Virginia thing.
