Nora outbreaks in Michigan and the UK? How at risk are we for a global or even national pandemic when this kinda stuff is going on? Aside from good bathroom and daily hygiene what can I do to mitigate risk of infection?

Yeah, noroviruses are nothing new...this is just a new name for what was before called "Norwalk-like viruses". If you've ever heard of cruise ship gastroenteritis, you already know about Norovirus outbreaks.
That UK article calls it a "killer virus"...although some people can certainly die from it (heck, some people die from chickenpox too), in healthy adults it's generally a 1-2 day puke bug. Here's a more rational article about it from the CDC:

You hit the nail on the head...wash your hands a LOT...after shaking hands, after using the bathroom, after touching things that other disgusting human beings have touched, before eating with your horrid hands, etc.
let me know if you want to discuss any specific points from that article, or anything else regarding Norwalk-like illnesses.
your pal,
steve
