I was thinking of getting a new TV. I have a huge CRT TV, and was thinking of getting a flat panel TV (not a plasma though), and I am wondering which uses less power.
Does anyone know? I am just trying to compare operation costs. Thanks

Just look at them. Then you can tell which uses more power.

This does not really help. What I want to know is if I had a 20" CRT tv and a 20" LCD tv, which would use more power? That message board link did not seem to have an answer either.

According to this site, (http://www.bootstrike.com/Articles/LCDvsCRT/http://) a CRT uses 200% of the power of a LCD of similar size.

So the LCD uses about half the power the CRT does.

they have all these energy star things on them meaning they do pretty well. Most of the flat screens also have power conservation modes where you can run at super low power.

that was always a selling point of lcd's, back when they were so expensive, they're cheaper energy use wise, they generate less heat as well.

I had a 20+inch crt monitor back in the day, it was in the corner of my room...and you could really feel the heat coming off it.

the cost of these tv's is going to go up after christmas, some say by between 15-30%, so if you want to get one take advantage of the christmas sales now.

I just bought a 32" LCD flat panel to replace my ol' 19" CRT and I'm loving it. Definitely generates less heat than the old CRT.

The next question: 720pi or 1080pi? I went with the 720 because they have no idea when 1080 is gonna be implemented en masse.

its hard to tell the difference between 720 and 1080 on screens smaller than 40-50 inches, to me anyway.

he is totally right, there is no reason to worry about 1080p at that size screen, most people are never going to notice
