I like the Beach Boys and all, sort of, but sorry, I don't get it. I've heard Pet Sounds, and it's good, but that's about it. Just good. I never saw why it was such an amazing, mindblowing album. Sure, it was recorded very well, but that's just technology and knowing how to use it. You could record someone taking a shit with the finest gear available, and the best producer working today, but it's still just the sound of someone crapping.

I kinda agree. However, as u know, the technology was pretty low tech back then.
and the songs are really swell. great chord progressions and lyrics. They are doing things on that album nobody had done before.
I like the originality, and the creative producing.
i dont hear to many NEWER bands doing anything original or creative. too busy trying to be the next flavor of the week.

Stop listening to the radio for music.
There are tons of bands that are original and creative, but they're mostly unsigned or on independant labels. You gotta go to local clubs and see live bands that are trying to make a noise and entertain some people. I've posted some bands on here that can be found on mp3.com that are very original and amazing. But does anyone listen to me? Noooooo.

i dont do the club scene anymore. been there done that.
i was at fugazi's first show
and bad brains last show before being band in DC. i was already bored with the indie scene by 1988.
as far as metal goes, I just cant seem to keep a straight face when i listen to it.
tho, "Hell Awaits" is one of my desert island choices~ 666~

Two great albums Perry.
I always thought The Beach Boys were underrated, they were truly one of the greatest American bands. However, I take Sgt. Peppers over Pet Sounds by a slim margin.

Can't say either one, both great albums.
Undecided, sorry for being a fence writer.

Perry's been reading my mind or bugging my house again! I have been on a "Pet Sounds" kick lately, and paying special attention to "Wouldn't It Be Nice", one of the most beautiful songs ever recorded, in my eyes. It's getting my vote only because I never thought Sgt. Pepper was the Beatles' best work; I'm much more of a "Rubber Soul" fan.

although i grew up right next to where the beach boys were from, i'd pick sgt peppers.
correct me if im wrong, but i thought paul said pet sounds inspired the beatles to do sgt peppers, not the other way around.

Uh, Perry, you ask for Horde King in "Old School"? You get a demerit for that!LOL
Anyway, Pet Sounds came out in 1966, Sgt. Pepper was released in 1967. And by the way, Horde King is NO Don Kirshner!;)

I've always preferred "Revolver" over "Sgt. Pepper".

I had the cool opportunity to go to see Sir George Martin give a lecture about the making of Sgt. Peppers..And I am sure if you had the chance to attend you would change your mind, Gvac...Pet Sounds was recorded very well...I am not sure that it's as Revolutionary as Sgt.Peppers though. Sgt. Peppers is a timeless album...it could have been recorded last month...
Big props go out to the Beach Boys though...
