The last surviving member of the inaugral class to the NFL Hall of Fame has died. He was 94.

He was the first modern QB. 94 years is a pretty good run, especially for a former player.

In 1943, he led the league in passing, punting and defensive interceptions. In one game, he threw four touchdown passes and intercepted four as well. He threw six touchdowns passes in a game twice. His 51.4-yard punting average in 1940 is still the NFL record.
Unbelievable!

You thought he was playing in his late 50's?

This guy was awesome. If you ever watch the old NFL Films interviews they did with him he didnt give a shit what people thought of him. And he cursed like a maniac. True old school player.

Amazing football player. One of the best of all-time.

Pretty much never left his ranch for the last 40 years or so.

My favourite Sammy Baugh story was the one where he got the check from Jay Z in the mail a few years ago because Jay wore a Baugh jersey in one of his videos

Last spring the hip-hop superstar Jay-Z—in the video for his single Girls Girls Girls—wore an exact replica of the maroon, long-sleeved number 33 jersey that Sammy Baugh sported for the Washington Redskins in 1947. Scant weeks later Baugh himself left his ranch house in Rotan, Texas, for his once-a-month visit to the mailbox, in which he discovered a five-figure royalty check that must have appeared, to his 88-year-old eyes, to be a bank error in his favor. "He's been thinking ever since," says Peter Capolino, the 57-year-old Philadelphian who introduced, as it were, Jay-Z to Slingin' Sammy, "What is going on?"

well said.
played offense, defense and special teams
Baugh was even more successful in 1943 and led the league in passing, punting (45.9-yard average) and interceptions (11)

By the time he retired, Baugh set 13 NFL records in three player positions: quarterback, punter, and defensive back.

Fez saw him play as a rookie. Called him a sure-fire Hall of Famer.
