When you live in a desert, you can throw a shoe and then still walk home.

You throw a shoe here in NYC, you look like an idiot standing there with one shoe on...AND you'll have to buy new shoes to get home.

I cant Fucking STAND that the news and all these fucking liberal douchebags that have been making lite of the shoe throwing incident. It was an all out disrespectful act towards America. Like it or not people, Bush is still president, and still represents this nation. That fucko that threw his shoes at the man did it as an act of disrespect and GOD FORBID that it was Barrack Obama on that stage instead of Bush, this fucking one sided media would have wanted that mans head on a spike.

Even though Bush still represents this nation, I don't have to be reminded of it! Please!

and now Deep Thoughts, by Jack Handey:
"Before you criticize someone, you should walk a mile in their shoes. That way, when you criticize them, you're a mile away. And you have their shoes."

In other news, apparently the MTA has better security than the President. They caught this guy before the first shoe was even thrown!

I agree that it's a disrespectful act to throw a shoe at such a leader, but Bush did invade this guy's country and f'd it up big time. Once we leave, hoooo boy.. Iraq will be even worse.

You can't really make a comparasion of Obama being in the same situation, because it is yet to be seen if he will.

I was intrigued by the social/cultural aspect of the original shoe throwing story and figured it had to have some significance. And sure enough:

Hurling a shoe at someone usually isn't a sign of respect, but the act carries a particularly significant blow in Arabic and Islamic culture.

Shoes, and the bottom of one's foot, are considered especially dirty and distasteful in Islam, Ahmed said.

Because of that, Muslims remove their shoes and ritually wash their feet before entering the sanctuary in a mosque.

I think that cultural view is just fascinating.

Yeah, one of the first things you're told when you come to this part of the world is not to sit cross-legged with the soles of your feet facing an Arab. It's a huge insult.

Another is to avoid using your left hand when shaking hands or passing things. That's because in the Arab world, the left hand is used for wiping your ass. I always find that funny because I'm right-handed.

One less shoe for the thugs to take when the guy gets mugged.
