My cat jumps from the zodiac to my sailboat in a single bound.

Lava the cat, riding in the Zodiac in Maine last Summer. He waits till we get back to my sailboat, the William Bligh, and then jumps aboard her.. quite cool, actually.

From someone with as many posts as you've got, that means a lot, especially for someone who's a new user to ronfez.net.

Lava is 5 and a half now, and grew up riding with me in the truck since he was a kitten of eight weeks. He's sailed with me off Southern California and spent nearly a year on my previous sailboat, the Hard Knots... as well as on various shorter trips on Arizona lakes. My new boat which you saw in the video is still up in Portland, Maine.. but we'll be trying again to sail her south to Virginia or someplace warmer in June...

Well Lava is a large cat, so it is in fact a dog life jacket... and I bought it at West Marine, although Petsmart carries them too. Elvira, my other cat, is too small and I've not been able to find one for her, although her sailing days are over. It keeps Lava's head and shoulders a lot higher above the water than when he swims without it.

My in-laws had their dachsund in a life jacket, leashed to the kayak when they were out one time. They forgot for a minute and looked back to find that Scooby had gone overboard. The life vest had made swimming impossible, so there she was being keel-hauled on her side. This gave me a decent chuckle when I heard it.

Holy crap. lol... well... this pfd allows the animal to swim pretty well. When I first got it I tested it by throwing Lava with his jacket on into the swimming pool. I jumped in after him just in case there was a problem.... but Lava quickly swam to the side, hoisted himself out, and ran into the grass where he promptly crapped himself.. lol... good times. When we were stuck out off Catalina in 2005, I'd drill him by pushing him overboard on our mooring to make sure he knew to swim to the ladder on the back of the Hard Knots and haul himself aboard.. but don't feel too sorry for him, as he got his revenge by running to my berth and soaking my sheets while he preened himself.
