I use to adore Christmas. Loved buying the tree, going to the mall and shop, baking and cooking. I'm over it. Now we have a 3' fiber optic tree and shopping on line. Instead of cooking, ordering from a local deli.

It's sad, but Christmas is only fun for kids. Unfortunately it becomes a stressful event the older you get.

Bah humbug!

This is bologna. You guys have to get into the spirit. watch Rudolph, and Frosty and then tell me you dont feel like baking cookies, and firing off one of those long ass family update letters that we all love.

Notice there's never anything bad in those letters...little Johnny knocked up the school guidance counsellor and Mary came out of the closet this year...What a year for the Smith family!

I perticularly like them when they dress up the family pet like a reindeer.

It's not so much stress as a general sense of "blah" when it comes to Christmas.

Thanks to my sister who decided to have the first kid in our family at the age of 46, we will all be getting together on the 25th. He's 20 months old. I bought him a couple of cool gifts. And the kid's a maniac. I almost feel like I'm the grandmother. I get to enjoy him for the day and then they have to take him home.

There is this guy a block away that has one of the most decorated houses on Long Island and he must spend months getting ready and I bet his garage is full of all this stuff when the season is over. Its insane. I cant imagine having that kind of time.

I think it's easier to get into the spirit when you have kids. I think I'm actually more into it than usual this year. Of course, the fact that all of my shopping has been done online this year probably helps. Christmas shopping sucks.

I don't much get into the spirit until Christmas Eve when I sit down with a bottle of bourbon and watch Bogart's We're No Angels. Sometime around midway through that I get misty and start calling up family.

I must be a freak because I don't even mind shopping at the mall, although I am choosy about which mall I will go to. (I have plenty of malls to choose from, though, so it all works out.)

I've been baking cookies since Thanksgiving and have wrapped most of the gifts I've purchased, either as soon as they arrived for online orders or as soon as I brought them home from the store for brick-and-mortar things.

Maybe I'll get anxious about it in a couple of years, but not this year.

for 8 years i have begged my family to not involve me in christmas. "please dont buy me anything, as i will not be buying anything for anyone, i dont want to do the whole christmas thing. ill come over for dinner but i dont want presents or any of that shit." i feel like its a childrens holiday, and im an adult now so leave me out of it. and every year it never fails, i get there and everyone has a gift and is all upset that i didnt get them anything. i fucking hate it. i got into a huge fight with my dad today about it too. why after 8 years do you still have to force this bullshit on me?!?! do you really need to give a gift to validate yourself? just be respectful of my wishes. i dont want you to buy me anything, if i want something i buy it myself.

rant over.
