The Roots are one of my top 3 favorite musical acts. I have seen them in concert about a dozen times. Now, they are retiring from full time touring to become Jimmy Fallon's house band on the New Late Show.

I am happy for them, since they will be able to get some cash and recognition without having to be on the road 300 days a year. But there is something inside me telling me that this just isn't right.

It sucks that they won't be touring, since that's where they're at their best, but most of those dudes have not been able to live off of being in the band even after all of this time, and this changes that for everyone involved. They've earned the payday.

Is Fallon doing his show out of New York? Cause if he is, they may still play certain shows or festivals, like Rock the Bells.

I too have seen the roots about a dozen times. The best being at the house of blues in cleveland after a 311 show. They just kinda showed up and tickets were only 7 dollars. they went on at midnight and most of 311 showed up. That trip down memory lane said, moving to be a house band for jimmy fallon might not be the best move. They will likely lose the fire that inspired their work and just move to a dulled down version of themselves.

I'm glad I got tickets to see them this month in AC. I'll probably go see them every time they play around here until they stop now.

I saw Jimmy Fallon last night at the Wainwright's christmas family concert. He wasn't bad at all.

I really hope he utilizes these guys differently then most talk shows use the "house band"..They couldn't pay Winton Marsalis enough money to sell out, let's hope The Roots find the whole idea stupid after it starts..They should've hired the poor mans Roots, I could live with The Gym Class Heros being taken out of circulation..

The Roots are too good to be a house band. Still, I am glad that they are gettin paid.
