I really wanted to know his thoughts, but other than knowing he's openly gay, we don't converse much. I guess since I don't know how he'd take it, I decided it's safer not to ask (things are a little weird around the office these days with a lot of layoffs).

This pathetic attempt to show the US what the world would be like if they didn't show up for work shows how the gays will never have a cohesive civil rights movement. Partly it's because gays as a group are too diverse. You have everyone from David Geffen to the lesbian lunch lady at a Brooklyn public school. On top of that (or bottom), there is no gay leadership. Mormons and other batshit crazy religious groups will have no problem passing more Prop 8's as long as gays remain this divided, unorganized, and leaderless.
