If you have to carry a load of materials a distance, and you can do it in one trip with difficulty or two trips with ease, are you more likely to take one trip or two? I find myself making the extra effort to take one trip to avoid having to backtrack or take the extra time to complete the job. So what is it? One trip or two?

I would do the one trip to get it done with. I like to get stuff done quick so I can move on with my life.

One trip.
Most frequent example of this is with groceries. I'll load up both arms with as many bags as I can fit on them and walk slowly to the door while trying to keep my back straight and arms from collapsing.
But it's worth it because then I don't have to go back out to the car a second time.

Do any other conditions matter? Like in the Winter I would definitely do one trip.
Summer I would make 3. Especially if it is a ridiculously nice day out.
Or is this trip to save a life?
Is this too much thinking.
But anyway I guess when i carry groceries I just try to be strong guy and carry as many bags as possible, even if it means cutting blood flow to my wrist.

One trip!
I like to spend as little time lingering in front of my house as possible, to avoid any possible encounters with my neighbors.

One trip always even if it means more work. Grocery day is a nightmare for me because I am determined to carry as much as possible.

I'll do whatever I can to get it done in one trip. The grocery bags example is a good one. I'll quickly access the bunch of bags in the car and if I feel I can carry them all I will load myself up.
If I get as much as I can in my arms and there are still more bags and I realize I'll have to make a return trip I drop everything and start over again trying to balance out the 2 trips.
A subset of this anal retentive behavior is, whenever I have to carry something downstairs to store it away, I always feel the need to find something that needs to be taken back upstairs. I feel as though I am wasting the trip if my arms are empty.

You are obviously all animals, who don't live in homes with attached garages.

I actually started using reusable grocery bags just so I could carry more inside in one trip.
The ones from Whole Foods, made entirely from old plastic bags, are the biggest, followed by the fabric ones from pretty much everywhere else that also have the bonus plastic "floor" so all your stuff stays upright.
The handles are nice and long so you can usually sling one or two bags over each of your shoulders in addition to the other bags you're loading your arms with, and since they hold more stuff, there's usually no second trip.
Everything else, I'll make more than one trip. I'm too clumsy not to ... and I hate looking like I'm trying to copy Rachael Ray.

It depends on what I'm carrying. If it's pillows, one trip. It it's anvils, two trips. Don't want to hurt the back.

Plus, if you can figure out how to do this in one trip, you can really pat yourself on the back for not only some hard physical work, but some good thinking and strategical planning.

This thread makes me chukcle. I tend to have to bring an enormous amount of crap into work from my car when I arrive. I look like a moron with things in both arms, fingers looped through what I can loop them through and occasionally things in my teeth - but I'm not going back to the car!
And getting a door open like that's a bitch.

Why don't you just box it and get a luggage cart? Luggage carts are cheap and come with elastic or adjustable straps and they make life easier.

Two trips anytime the drive is less than an hour. I'm pretty petite, and can't carry too much, so I'm in this situation more often than I'd like.

As previously stated, it depends on the conditions, but generally I'm a two-tripper.
Why would you want to be the person whose arms are overflowing with junk?
You are praying you make it to the door before all your crap comes crashing down and you wind up looking like an uncool retard.
Ever see a man try to carry more then he should? He looks like he's either constipated or trying to hold in a shit. Top it off with a red face and sweat pouring down his face.
What you one-trippers call "time management" and "efficiency", just looks like a guy trying to flex his muscles.

When grocery shopping, if I'm by myself, I'll tend to carry as much as I can in one trip. However, if I have Jack with me, I'll take two trips; one with Jack in his car seat and couple bags of groceries (usually the cold stuff), and the second with everything else.

One trip, but then I crab ass my way all the way up there. I fucking HATE to carry things, because I spent too long as a photo assistant hauling shit all over the fucking earth.
I'll even make my wife roll the carry on behind her so I don't have to carry anything at the airport. The days of carrying things are over.

Because then you'll look like some easy living, smart, pussy that can't handle hefting dozens of pounds in each hand. Sometimes, I even try to do curls with my groceries (as previously stated) to try and impress any of the ladies that may ever need a well groomed manly hand with grocery carrying duties. I've even put off buying things like laundry soap and other bulky items because I know that with those purchases one trip would be impossible.
