We all are aware of the "sopranos", "24" gift sets, but if you want something different, may i suggest the following 2 series DVD gift sets that are available at your local borders:
2 bbc productions for me:
1) "inspector morse" a british detective series with john thaw, (rip), that takes place on a college campus in london. i especially suggest getting the DVD with the 2 parter, "the masonic mysteries". you may recognise someone in that show that went on to semi fame inthe star wars trilogy. he plays a much nastier sort in this show.....
morse drives a an old vintage jag sedan that he covets. loves to down a pint or three, and lives a very solitary life surrounded with classical music.
2) also one other one: sherlock holmes with jeremy brett. granada television's production of this series was top shelf, it spared no expense. the actor who played sherlock was perfect for the role. the stories compelling and well acted by all. great television.
3) german tv series called "tatort", aka "scene of the crime" subtitles. gritty, grainy, very german, but also funny. compelling characters. i doubt you will find this one on dvd.
any other ideas?
both of these have been on PBS for years, but you may have missed them.
