I heard people on O&A saying these Harmony remotes from Logitech were pretty nice.
Just a start. (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16880111004)

Logitech Harmony 550
Universal RF 10, 20 or 30
I own that Logitech (Mid Grade) and a Universal MX 950(High End but older). Obviously different leagues but my general impressions based on when I worked in that industry are: Logitechs are by and large cheaper and MUCH easier to program. Universals are nicer, smoother, offer way more features but are significantly more difficult to program. One gripe with my Harmony is it can only do "routines" and it's really weak when it comes to punchthroughs. So if the Cable box is on and I want to switch to DVD I can only either switch inputs or turn off the TV Set and then run the DVD routine. The Universal remembers that I have the TV on so it just sends the signal to switch the input and adjusts it's punchthroughs. The Universal is much better at things like that (although the Universal is running a better TV, DVD player, etc, so that may have something to do with it).
Edit: Punchthroughs refers to the fact that you rarely want the remote to control cable box volume but you always want it to control the cable box channels, so when the remote is set to cable mode the volume controls "punch through" to either the TV or recievers volume. The Logitech can do it, just not as well.

I love my Logitech. I have the one that controls the XBOX 360 as well. It is awesome and really simple to setup. I plan on getting a second Logitech for the bedroom tv setup.

The greatest remote ever only $80 at Amazon (http://www.slickdeals.net/permadeal/16026/Logitech-Harmony-880-Advanced-Universal-Remote-Control-80)
The 880 could be the greatest electronic gadget I've ever purchased.

i've never been a fan of the universal remote. there's always buttons that are not mapped from the original remote to the universal, and you wind up wasting time digging up the original remote any time you need to use the missing buttons.

Any button from the original remote can be programmed on the 880. No need for the original remote.

I was going to say the same thing, I don't know if that's going to be in the sub100 price range, but they are quality, my father has one and the thing works great and with a ton of different inputs and devices.
