Im paying Verizon:

Landline $ 60
Cellphone $ 50
DSL $ 25

Im ok with cellphone and DSL rates - but Landline went up from 50 to 60 because
i had some package and the year is up. I hardly use the damn thing but don't want to
give up my home phone altogether for phychological reasons ( and...i cant imagine trusting cellhone to work 24/7)

I need another landline carrier. My verizon DSL will go up to 30 but thats ok if my landline goes down to 30 or 40.

I love the verizon DSL (3.0 mbps) so i dont want to get mixed up with TimeWarner Roadrunner.

Anyone?

My buddy has Cingular which I believe merged with Sprint and he hasn't had good reception in his own house for months. He keeps his internet phone in his house to his close friends can get through to him when his cell won't take his calls.

I was using Tracfone and Boost Mobil before Verizon. So I'm absolutely no help to you. I just felt like talking.

I've been with Sprint since 2001 and have no problems with them. They give me $150 off upgrades every two years. I get service almost everywhere and they're trying very hard to get and keep people so they offer deals all of the time. I highly recommend them.

It sounds like some of you are referring to Wireless cellphone service. I want to replace
my home landline phone service, because its too expensive. This Vonage thing mentioned has potential - but the website mentioned additional hardware - i don't think it just does through the phone lines.

Is there a reason why you want to keep your landline? Do you have kids at home who need a phone? Do you not get cell service at home? Otherwise, it just makes sense to bump up your cell package a bit and get rid of the landline.

there are alternatives to verizon, but you'd have to check your area. Unless you're in an area like i am, were Embarq is the only provider.

There's also the VOIP services, in most cases you'd have to get a compatible router, but most now use normal phone that plug into a router. Sure its a one time expense, but most offer unlimited calling for half of what it seems you're paying. But i think you'd recoup those losses in 1-2 months, the equipment is very cheap.

Bad part is that it is dependent on you having internet service, your internet service fails your phone fails.
