HDTV in Japan

In August, I bought a brand new Samsung 40in HDTV at an employee discount day for military members at Best Buy. My roomate has an HDTV of his own, however, and I haven't taken the thing out of its box yet. Now, I'm preparing to move to Japan in January and I've heard conflict reports about whether or not my TV will work. I'll be living in Northeast Japan on the main island of Honshu. Does anyone know if an American-made TV with lofty power requirements like this would be reliable in Japan? How about an American market PS3?

Thanks. I read a similar question on yahoo question, but they only mentioned blenders, hairdyers, etc. That's the first one that mentioned a big screen tv.
