Digital Camera??

Hey guys, I'm in the market for a digital camera, and I was wondering if people could chime in if they know anything (expecting PanterA and Rich to chime in...)

I want a camera that's 3.34 megapixels or more.

I want a camera that's small and easy to handle.

I've been looking at the Olympus D-40, the Sony DSC-5, and the OlympusC-4040.

The reason being, is that I've seen Olympus quality - both PanterA's camera and my father's camera are Olympus, and I can't complain about the quality.

Does anyone have another camera suggestion to look at? Or any horror stories with Olympus/Sony/Etc?

I'm using C-Net's suggestions that Sony and Olympus are the way to go, but after my CDBurner debacle...

Japanese, but thats just cause
it was bought in Japan.
Olympus sent me instructions

sony is defibately one of the best ways to go. they have 2 3.34 megapixel models. i dont have the model numbers off hand but both the smaller cybershot and the larger DS have carl zeiss lenses. a huge plus over olympus. zeiss is an excellent old school professional lens manufacter.

my personal favorite though (no matter what cnet says) is the nikon 995. nikon has the finest optics you can buy.

I'd make certain to look at the Nikon coolpix 885. Great camera and although most places carry it for 600, it can be had for as low as 450 via mail order (Like from Abe's of Main).

if youre willing to spend some cash , getting a digial video camera is wort, its small and you can take still picture with it , plus you have the option of using filters and editing tools right in the camera

if you look Around you can find a good one for a few hundred dollars

I've been reading bad things about ABe's of Maine, as well as Beach Camera. I'm wondering if I should spend 40 extra dollars for peace of mind.

sorry for bringing up an old thread, but it really fits my question.

Does anyone have any input on what digital camera i should buy. I want at least 3 megapixels and want to spend between $300-$400. I am leaning towards a sony DSC-P71 Cyber-shot. If anyone owns this any input would be appreciated and so would opinions on other cameras. Thanks.

I have a 3.1MP Hewlett Packard digital camera that works fine and dandy for me and it only cost like $199. Then I just purchased the HP photo printer (the one that prints only 4x6 and 3x5 photo cards) and voila! never have to get film developed again

I work for Nikon. Abe's of Maine is what we call "gray market" which means you don't get a US warraanty. Be careful trying to buy a camera on the net. If you would like to know authorized Nikon dealers in your area, send me an e-mail & I'll let you know.

Since I got railed about this, I'll clarify...

I bought a Canon Powershot S40 from Beach Camera in New Jersey last year. It was 4 megapixels and compact. It was 740 all together, with a bag kit and taxes.

However, the price has dropped in the year since I've had it. It's now around 550, last I looked.

I can't complain about quality... it's awesome, I've never had a problem with it in the year I've had it.

If your gonna buy a Digital Camera, I suggest you go for the people who make the regular camera such as Nikon and Olympus. I also suggest Sony. I have a Sony video camera which I also use to take stills.

I had a Kodak digital camera for a few years and it worked pretty well. My new camera though is amazing.

It's from Sony, I have a Cyber-shot DSC-S85, it's 4.1 megapixels.
