It seems that the Atkins diet has died down. Is it safe to eat bread again? Do you eat bread? What kind? I like bakery fresh bread myself.

I had cast iron skillet corn bread with butter and maple syrup for breakfast, and a hoagie for lunch. I manage to maintain a svelte physique. Excercise, people.

I never stopped eating bread at all. There were so many idiots on the "Atkins diet" who weren't actually following the real diet, which is pretty strict, and thought that it meant you just have to take the bun off your Big Mac and you're on a diet.
But the Atkins Diet itself worked like any other diet: follow it, you cut your calories, you lose weight. It was bullshit.

I fucking love bread. I'll get bakery fresh Italian, or sourdough. I have my grandparents being me bread from north jersey and drop it at my moms if they visit her (I'm in PA), and if I'm in manhatten visiting I'll always get a few loaves of bread.

I miss good German bread, everything have tried here is too sweet and the texture is not the same as from the bakery there.
So I eat Italian breads if I do... or a baguette for dipping in olive oil and herbs...

ha, no.
The ingredients are different. Somehow even bread at places like wegmans has sugar added and tastes a bit sweet.
It's disappointing when you buy a whole grain loaf and it tastes sugary.
and the texture does not compare.

My friend Martin has a bread route from a Lithuanian bakery and they have all kinds of old style European bread. He is Polish and delivers to mostly Polish delis and shops across Long Island. This bakery is in Corona, queens. I have some frozen German rye in my freezer. I can get you the address for the bakery if you want. This is one of the bread companies he delivers: link: (http://www.canadianrye.com/public_html/product.html)

It never wasn't safe to eat bread. Bread is delicious and should never be abstained from. I should send three Frenchmen to your door with stale baguettes for a sound thrashing for the start of this thread.

Fuck, now I want some good bread. I don't think we have any Jews in Iowa, never mind a bakery.

Katja you really shouldn't be getting your bread at wegmans. There has to be a good bakery somewhere near you! I'll do some research, I need to find some places myself

there is a bakery in town, but their rolls don't taste anything like German rolls and I never saw good bread there.

Aww shoot Katja, wish I had read this earlier. Mojo is currently soiling himself en route to Germany at this very moment. He could've brought some bread back for you
