absolutely nothing. I decided to give my son to his dad so he could spend the holiday with a big family instead of sitting home alone with me. So my plans for the day are to sleep and chill at home for once.
No turkey for me either... unless I make a turkey breast or something.

My dad and his wife are flying into the NY this Sunday and we're going to give them a tour of the city.
On Thanksgiving my girl is going to be cooking and eating her first Turkey in a decade (she's a vegetarian), so it should be interesting to see how it all goes down.

Spending time with my Wife's family. Sister In law coming up from Florida. Just too many people in a small apartment. About 5 kids and 12 adults. Those little bastards better not interfere with Football. Sucks that the Eagles game is on NFL network..have to figure out a way to watch it.
Wanted to go to parade but it is going to be cold and raining. Will get up and watch it. And of course going to listen the the special Ron & Fez Thanksgiving show..always look forward to it.

By the way folks, the "traditional" Thanksgiving dinner that is depicted in Pilgrim tales of a feast shared by European newcomers and friendly indians.... never happened.
Just a fact you might want to bring up at the table this Thanksgiving. Makes a great conversation piece.

My family will be going to my brother-in-law's house. I'm not looking forward to it. First, my brother in law works on Wall Street and things are pretty tough for him.
Second, his wife's parents will be there, and they are some of the most racist and dumb people I know. Given Obama's election, I expect to hear some dumb racist shit, which really gets to me.
However, I've pledged to my wife that I will excercise all restraint and not respond to what's said. If I can't deal with it, I'll leave the room.

It's not so much that my family is racist, it's just they are hardcore republicans. I've had to lie to my mother and father about who I voted for (I said Ron Paul as a write-in) because I caught tons of craps from them over me volunteering for the Clinton campaign in 1992.
My dad doesn't like Obama because of his policies, plain and simple. When I tried a counter about Palin's policies, they flipped out, so I dropped the subject.
As for you and your boyfriend splitting up...
Sometimes, the other side of the family can be very disconcerting. Some people adjust well, some people have tougher times. Maybe Dino is uncomfortable and you should talk about it.
I have a story that is kind of fresh in my head about personal in-law quirks, but I'll get to that later.

Working in hotels, there was an advantage to working holidays. Time and a half plus holiday pay (really making it double time and a half). Guests bring you all sort of food and treats and the tips seem to be bigger because they feel sorry for you since you got stuck working on a holiday.

The Bandits are hosting. Beer, Jr. will be a whopping 17 days old on Thanksgiving, so we invited over all the grandparents; but they have to do the cooking. We're providing the turkey (deep-fried) and a few of the trimmings but most of the food is coming in with the fam. There will be football. There will be R&F. There will be political arguments aplenty. Should be good times.
For the first time in my life we will be eating out for Thanksgiving. I will miss the leftovers but I told my wife that she can cook a turkey after the holiday to give us all of those hot turkey sandwiches.
It's gonna be awesome; talk will eventually turn to politics, my father will refer to Obama as either the anti-christ or the n-word, my sister will scream at him, a fight will erupt, and everyone will be miserable.
Standard fare, actually.
On second thought, maybe I'll stay home and eat peanut butter and preserves sandwiches.

I heard that my sister is going to be doing Thanksgiving this year and I wish she was not, because she keeps a very messy house and it skeeves me out whenever I go there. I keep thinking of the filth and it turns my stomach. Her bathrooms have no locks on the doors and that compounds my anxiety. I wish there was a way to avoid going without offending her and alienating my family. If I said anything to her about it, she would flip out bad.

ah, my sister-in-law is 100%. on election night she was just "disgusted" after it was announced that obama won & she just went to bed while my brother uncharacteristically stayed up late (he's usually in bed by 9) to watch the speech.

i think it may be me that's more bothered by his family than he is at mine. he gets along really well with my mother & my brother & sister in law love him. maybe its because they just see dollar signs when they look at him but who knows. she's really nice to him. i think she likes him better than me. i go to my brothers cause i like spending time with him & the kids. & my sister-in-law can make a pretty decent turkey. she can't make mashed potatoes for shit though & i always have to make those. he goes to his brothers just cause he doesn't get to see him that often & likes spending time with him watching football. he doesn't get along with his mom very well. they fight constantly & just recently went 2 months without speaking. his mom is nice to me & all but being around his family is soo exhausting mentally for me.

They have extra police, including mounties, on duty as well as brand-new halogen street lamps. (Doesn't change the fact that it's Newark, but the city has been trying to make it safer.)
Just stay on Market Street until you get to Mulberry Street. It's about 2.5 blocks from Newark-Penn to The Rock. Wear comfy shoes because it's a slight uphill and dress warmly because the wind is nasty.

I always do the small Thanksgiving with the family. My mother, father grandmother and myself. Then I usually invite a friend of mine to come over if he doesn't have anything better to do and an old family friend of ours is always invited even if he doesn't show.
So tops it's 6 people.
Eventually I'll roll out of bed here and start making the deviled eggs, candied yams and a salad most likely. Everything else this year is coming from a catering place, which is fucking sweet. Less prep work and less clean up.
