so I've gotten out of the vault and made it into megaton. talked to all the peeps but don't have any of the skills to either fix or detonate the bomb. fix the three leaking pipes around town so I took the letter from that chick and headed for her town.
how am I supposed to buy, fix, pick locks, kill people faster etc when I can't find anything that grants me that. do I need to finish each misson then get more attributes?
im currently en route to find the family and the chicks brother to give the letter to.

You need to level up and get XP in order to earn points to assign to certain skills. Which means doing side quests and getting in firefights with mutants from time to time in order to help yourself level up. You can pick some specializations in the beginning of the game, but you need to get points in order to level them up as you go along.

I wasn't sure where to alocate my points in the starts so I just evenly spread them.
I do notice when I kill a raider ill get some points.
but where do thos points go?

Those are XP points. Those go toward your rank. It's good to get a slight boost in your intelligence, you get more skill points when you level up.

im in the town of little kids and i can tell how to get out (the pully) but it wont let me open the gate to leave through the passage i need to get through to leave the town
quite frustrating
and if theres a town of just little kids and no adults; 200 years after the nuke, and the grownups must leave; does that mean that the kids are making more kids?
or does that just mean that the other people in the world are dropping off the kids; like an anarchist daycare/village

Don't evenly spread them - pick a few things you want to master and put the majority of your points there. I did lockpick, science, small guns, medical, speech.

probably luck
I think charisma might play off of speech

Luck increases your crit rate
Charisma increases your chance of speech success
CofyCrakCocaine
11-19-2008, 12:15 PM
Luck also gives a % bonus to all skills at every odd number. ex: luck at lvl 1 gives a +1 bonus to all skills. Luck at lvl 7 gives a +4 to all skills. That in mind, is it worthwhile? And charisma just helps speech- every other stat helps so many other skills. And you can always find speech skillbooks to make those speech challenges easier. Or just quicksave and reload if you fail the challenge 'till u get it right.

In order to get in, you need to talk to that snotty mayor, and get the mission where you have to save the 3 kids from the slavers in paradise falls (i think)

It wouldn't be the hollow arrow, that's your waypoint marker. The solid arrow should be a a good deal north of Vault 101. The town is on an overpass.

They give you 3 locations to look. It's the train station location. You go under and find a room w/ ghouls making Super Jet, and there is a manhole in that room, you need to go down there.

There's also a good perk if you decide to help out Arefu and the cannibals called "Hematophage" which heals you 20 HP if you drink blood packs.

the first time I did similar things put alot of points in to lockpicking science medicine and small guns,
This time Im not to worried about science, hacking a computer usally involes opening a door to a safe or shooting a turret
high lockpicking will open any safe and I just blow up turrets

when you guys say you finished the game does that include all the little missions you find along the way? or just thr main ones?

finding the rangers is well worth it, once you help/save them they give you a choice of reward. So far the ranger armor reward is the best in the game better the power armor in my opinion

Technically, you don't need Intelligence too high to max out your skills. At 4 intelligence u can get the educated perk which adds +3 skill points each level u get, then get the comprehension perk, which adds an additional point to the skill books you can find. After that you find all the skill books and thats 50 extra points/skill if u find every book and 48 additional skill points by the time you reach level 20. On top of that there are the bobbleheads so you have 328 (?) points to distribute with 60 more possible for each skill.
'Course, it's a pain in the ass to get all the skill books. Depends on how fast you want to max a skill I guess.
Is there honestly anything good about Charisma? It doesn't seem to open up special speech paths it just seems to raise your % of success in a speech challenge.

The Tesla powered armor is way heavy and not repairable with things you can find easily (ranger armor can be repaired w/ combat armor), and the rangers armor gives +10 to sm. guns.
There is even better armor in the game (the one you can get in the "shoot em in the head" quest), I have both pieces, and I still use the rangers combat armor.

He is saying "STAY AWAY" or something like that, there is a Wastelander near him who tells you that he has a bomb he will blow up if you get close. I had high enough Charisma or Speech to tell him to go talk the guy out of it, and he blew the Wastelander up. It's a weird miniquest that I haven't been able to find a positive resolution to (if you get too close, you get blown up too.

repairing items will increase their value so even if you arent using a weapon its important to repair it
and it means that you can carry more items with each having a greater value
