I am going to have to go with Caitlin Kiernan, who is primarily a fantasy writer in the vein of Neil Gaiman, but was a paleontologist when she was still a man. My first wife befriended her and, after we broke up, became her SO, which I find strangely fascinating.

I believe paleontology is a subject created by homosexuals, communists, Nickleback fans and other minions of the dark lord that attempts to confuse us and lead us astray from biblical truth.
That said, my favorite paleontologists are the Far Side professors - they really know how to show you the whackier side to what might seem the droll task of exploring natural history.

Horner's OK, but I liked Robert Bakker when I was a kid because he wears a cowboy hat, blue jeans and cowboy boots ... and looks like Grizzly Adams. Also, I thought it was cool that he used the word "bunk" on this special on PBS that I saw him do an interview for. Check his publicity photo out:

I also liked the work that Paul Sereno was doing down in South America. He was the height of awesome for me when I was a teenager. Here's a photo:

I know. I'm a dork. Deal with it.
