sentient?
as in will a computer become self realized and will we as a people, in our life times, decide weather it has the right to vote, or to property(corporations can buy property so it seems mean to not allow the thinking computer the same rights as a corporation)

but the right to vote would be interesting
or other rights that we would give a human, would we give to a computer?

in our lifetime will we need to actually answer these questions?

You're in the thick of it now. Automated telephone systems are a good example. We are on the brink.

I think we're much closer to giving animals the right to vote. I mean what's next? Gays getting married?

i do not think it will ever happen, just to many ethical issues being tied to it

Wasn't this the plot of "Bicentennial Man" starring Robin Williams as a Robin Williams robot?

This is bullshit. if it wasn't for us, they'd still be nothing but buckets of bolts and silica.
