I was showing an older woman co-worker how to use Map Quest and she wanted to zoom into the map, and she was asking me how I zoom in so easily whenever I show her in my computer. I told her to roll the mouse wheel forward to zoom in and backward to zoom out. I am watching her and see her jiggling the whole mouse and I tell her, no, roll the wheel. Shes completely puzzled. I point to the wheel on top of the mouse and I say "roll it!", and she looks carefully at the wheel and asks in disbelief if it can actually move! I say of course. she tries it and she is stunned! She said she had no idea that it could do that. she is so impressed that she starts telling other people in the office and I swear to god, out of 10 women, 8 had no idea that it could do that. I was flabbergasted!
I asked what they thought the wheel was an the majority of them swore they thought it was either a finger rest or a divider to keep from accidentally cleft or right clicking.
Below is an exact image of the types of mice in my office:

I was speechless. Have you ever been stunned by what you thought everyone knew, but didnt?
