Does anyone have any recommendations for a good web image editor program? I want to get a program that will let me make web buttons, edit images, create animations, etc. I would like something other than Photoshop if possible.

Doodypants is shitty.
I'm not sure if it does animations but paint.net (http://www.ronfez.net/forums/www.getpaint.net) is pretty nice and it is free. If you want something closer in features to photoshop, there is gimp (http://www.ronfez.net/forums/www.gimp.org) and it too is free.

I agree with the last guy, GIMP is a good "knockoff" of photoshop. I use ButtonGenerator to make clean buttons for menus and such.

What's your problem with Photoshop?

Do what everyone else does. Find a torrent of Adobe Photoshop.

Thanks, I'll give these a try.
I have Photoshop, but it seems too complicated for me for this type of work. Photoshop isn't so much the problem as I don't know a whole lot about making buttons or web graphics with it to be comfortable with it.

Photoshop seemed a little overwhelming for me to start off with too. The adobe classroom in a books that they sell are easy to follow along with.
There are also a lot of tutorials that you can find on youtube.
And if you're into torrents, search for Lynda photoshop, they arguably make the best tutorials.

I actually gave you the wrong link in my first post, that generator is web based.
I have a program that I use that makes real clean buttons, and even ones that change when you roll over them. I can't think of the name of it, I have it saved to disk somewhere, I dig it up if you're interested.

Thanks, I'll look up the Lynda tutorials on the torrents - I didn't even think to look there.
I'll also check out You Tube.
