That's right.

I mentioned it before, but in February we will be moving to Bethlehem,PA.

This is pretty crazy for me cause I have never lived anywhere but in NYC. I lived in the Dominican Republic for a year, but that was with family.

We will be starting fresh here. Chris will still have his job and in fact it's the same commute time.

I will have to start completely over. I've never even lived in anything but an apartment.

2 hours away from NY and I don't drive. (yet)

So I might go crazy.

The town is amazing and adorable and I know I'll love living there but... wow. What a change.

There are open mics there so I think that makes me feel better and like I'll at least be around artists.

Ahh! I scared but excited...

It's around historic Bethlehem. So not the south side.

And we're gonna rent.

Where are you Marc?

I've actually heard of that place!

We're gonna go there in about a week to put our application for the place in so we'll check it out.

Thanks!

Any more tips would be greatly appreciated. We're sort of just going by ratings on the internet on where to go and stuff. :)

Oh and Marc, we know people who live in 3 hours away from the city in pa but it's 2 hours away from where we're moving into cause they are in a completely different part. So we might not be close to each other....

Then again.. I know nothing about PA.

I know the area, it's near where my cousins live. It's a bit of a culture shock, but it's a nice, quiet area.

A recommendation though: DirecTV.

I live in Easton and it really depends on WHERE you are spending your time.
The center city is up and coming and so is Bethlehem and Allentown.
Easton has Palmer, Forks and Williams Township which are pricier and very nice.

I don't mean to dump on Easton, I know there are nice parts of it. but the parts I've been through lately are sort of depressed; just as you get off route 22 around 13th street. there is a shopping center called Forks Town Center that we are doing some renovations for (the Giant supermarket is expanding, so we are relocating some of the tenants in the other stores) and the houses around there seem depressing.

i'm pretty sure you'll find a 24 hour wal-mart. that's what we did when we moved. & all grocery stores are 24 hours too. so you can still get milk for your cereal at 2am, but you may have to go for a drive to get it. that was something i had to get used to.

i wish you both the best of luck on your new adventure together & want you to know you'll be missed dearly.

~Katja~

yes, there are 24 h grocery stores and super walmarts... targets even, imagine that. lol

The only thing to get used to is that wine and spirits are sold separate from beer... and most beer places only sell in bulk... and are closed or close early on Sunday :(

but NJ is only a 15 minute drive from Bethlehem, so you will be fine.

You have to get your 6-packs from the Bottle shop, but if you want a case you have to go to the distributor. Most places have package goods, too (i believe you can get that on sundays).

This is a super nice area. Right by Lehigh University. We've checked it out a bunch before we decided to move there.
So it's not what you're thinking of.
We looked up a lot of places and did not go for the bad areas.Very towny and friendly. They had a dog parade the last time we were there. and the time before that there was a Celtic festival, so there were a lot of guys with kilts on and lots of food.

Does not sound dangerous or bad at all to me.

I'm about 10 to 15 minutes away from Bethlehem. The part you are moving to is very nice and friendly! I was just in historic Bethlehem a couple weeks ago to get a doggie cake for my beagle's first birthday at this place called Bone Appetit. It's next to the steelgarden, bottom level. If you have pets its a cool spot to get things. Musikfest is great too.

I lived in mostly Jersey (minus college and studying abroad) for over 30 years and couldn't be happier having moved to PA.
