mornin buddays,my last listenin thread for while, yaeeeyaaa, see some of you friday durin the show
Greetings my Computer Companions!
Today is a day for celebration. It was a hard fought election last night.
I didn't think for a minute that it could of happened, but when the polls closed @ Midnight and it was released in the AP that I had won for "Ron & Fez Best Listener '08", I was overcome with joy.
I really owe it all to Dr Joe K. He nominated me and it took from there. Thanks Doc. Your the bestest ever.
I'de also like to thank Bobsin, Houston,Ledouski and GrandCanyon. They all voted for me.
I'de also like to thank DisnySpy. Even though Katja didn't make it to the top, I must say that she is a VERY good listener. She doesn't just hear the show but she listens. And that's what is important. To listen.
So in closing,.......... my Mom just told me to turn my radio down. She said that her new boyfriend is trying to sleep. She doesn't understand that I need to listen. Very closely.

todays opening song will NOT be "PET" by A Perfect Circle
(this is the song i associate most with Bush's Administration)
Swayin' to the rhythm of the new world order and
Counting bodies like sheep to the rhythm of the war drums
The boogeymen are coming
The boogeymen are coming
Keep your head down, go to sleep
To the rhythm of the war drums
Stay with me
Safe and ignorant
Just stay with me
I'll hold you and protect you from the other ones,
The evil ones, don't love you son,
Go back to sleep.
LISTEN TO BETTER MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!

At least they didnt get a super majority to force programs through, I dont like his policies but I hope the conservatives tell the religious fucks to take a back seat now and Im hoping the whacked ones in the left dont get a huge say in obamas regime.

Short terms are doing good but commodities and futures are going down especially in the EU markets mainly because of taxes that will kill any capital gains earnings in the future.
Im not gonna just bash him completely as of right now, I dont like it thats a fact I wont hide but those market gains were shallow in the nikkei and the EU drop is a little more telling, the hangover has started to subside just a bit.
We will see in a few years I guess, its not like I really thought mccain would do that much better any way. Either way not much got accomplished from what I have seen, fuck franken still has a shot at a senate seat, thats insane.

He was crying because of the significance of a black man being elected President by America. I think he overreacted, but you can't dispute that it was an emotional important moment given our country's history.

more significant than the first black president (race doesn't matter to me, honestly) is the widening of the democratic margin in both houses of congress. add that to obama being in office, and we're going to get two years of the legislative and executive branches of government jerking each other off while we pay the price with higher taxes.

Read your history then. It was 45 years ago that we had to pass legislation to ensure blacks had an equal opportunity to vote, and there was civil unrest because of it in many areas of the country.

I can now say it. I voted for McCain.
I'm disappointed my guy didnt win.
But.
I'm an American, and I'm ready to support my president elect, in his efforts to get America back on track. I am also proud of America that racism didnt reign last night, as was expected by some. No matter who had won, I felt, America had a chance to be strong again.
I wish Barack Obama well, as if he does well, so shall we all.

Yes, we all knew it would happen eventually, but that doesn't make it any less important. Plus, the fact that it happened now is a big deal.

That is a cool attitude. I'll give you the John Wayne quote about JFK in 1960:
"I didn't vote for him but he's my president, and I hope he does a good job."

whether correct or not, weren't riots only predicted if obama lost? like ron was saying he'd cab it home last night if mccain won. that caller was a dumm-dumm.
I think there were predictions of riots if he won. I saw some of them on this board. The rationale is that "those people" rioted when their favorite basketball team won, they're going to go absolutely batshit when "they" get into office.

I feel about the same way but I didnt feel racism is nearly as strong in the country as other people do, either way bush was going to be gone and it was gonna be better. That being said, I would rather have had a mccain from 2000 than the current one, he was also too old.

I think it's harder to see racism nowadays unless you are faced with it head-on.
Clearly, this wouldn't happen to a white person living in middle america unless they were involved with minorities or living in a more mixed area.
Hell, it might not even come into play in suburban NJ.
But when it does come into your personal life, whether in violent or non-violent ways, you realize right quick that there still is a WHOLE lot of racism ... and that it may never be completely gone.
It is what it is. But this is a huge step in the right direction for this country. I am proud today. Both to be a naturalized American and a minority woman. w00t!

Read about recent American history, in particular civil rights history starting in the 1940's on. That history was Jim Crow laws, "separate but equal" segregation, lynching of civil rights workers and blacks, etc, civil rights demonstrations, rioting and looting, forced busing to schools, etc.

First, other than saying you don't like McCain, 90% of what you have posted politically attacks Obama and the dems. You say that you are against both, but your arguments appear to reflect anger and venom towards Obama and the dems.
Second, you don't know that they will be a disaster any more than you knew that Indiana, Virgina and Florida would never go to Obama. Yes, you may think that his policies are a bad thing, but at least acknowledge that you don't know what will happen in the future and whether he'll succeed or fail.
I supported Obama, but I am not going to sit here and say that he's going to be the greatest president of all time and issue in a golden age for americans. He could succeed or he could fail. He could be another FDR or another Jimmy Carter. No one can know for sure.

I quote myself because theyre back on this topic, and the question remains unanswered.
I think it's more symbolic than any expectation of actual concrete gain. An affirmation, an acknowledgement that African-Americans can do whatever they want after all.

I don't think anyone realistically think that it magically changes anyone's life at this moment, but it's a huge step for the future and a massive symbolic moment that represents so much for blacks in this country and the country as a whole. It's something we should all be proud of, and no other industrial nation in the world has accomplished it.

I think it's a big thing that an African American won the presidency.
It's historical, and very cool.
But how does it affect the average African American on the street?
How does Franklyn or Earl's life change?
Is it just the "my grandkids will live in a better world?" or do they really think this abolishes the way they were treated unfairly even yesterday?
I ask because I really dont know.
It re-affirms their laziness. If a black man can pick himself up, get an education, do a good job and achieve the highest political office in the land, there is no such thing as racism.

The election is a sign of how far we've come. I don't think it will be the cause of things changing drastically. It's more of an effect than a cause. But it will have after effects one way or another.
How does NJ do their seats now for biden? Is it an election or an appointed office?
Im kind of glad hes gone, hes such a whack job, he made palin look almost sane.

It doesn't mean there is no racism. There is still racism in this country, and it will probably always exist. Shit, listen to the callers to this show.
What it means that it's not as prevalent and not anywhere near as large of an obstacle as it once was.

I seriously can't make that decision. That's a race that's way too close to call.
The election is a sign of how far we've come. I don't think it will be the cause of things changing drastically. It's more of an effect than a cause. But it will have after effects one way or another.
I dont think people look at race as much as in the past though, and hell I work around people everyday

All good points to which I agree.
But listening to Earl and Franklyn, theyre acting like they got a raise or something.

I'll be Mr. Takes the Question Seriously: the governor appoints a Senator to serve that Congress. He or she doesn't get a full term; they'll have to face a special election in 2010.
That'll happen in both Illinois and Delaware.
