I think it's more symbolic than any expectation of actual concrete gain. An affirmation, an acknowledgement that African-Americans can do whatever they want after all.

but it's more than that.
and it's not just speaking to Black people. It's minorities in general.
and anyone who looks at the leadership of this country and can now see someone who looks like them. who has gone through what they have on some level.

Well I was raised in what people would call a racist state and our grandparents lived near where they filmed deliverance so if Im not that effected I dont see how its that big of a deal, besides earl and franklyn didnt even come close to experience what it may have been like 50 years ago. I think race is only as big a deal as the individual makes it out to be, I just dont care as long as people can do their job I have no problem.

He lives in a very, very nice area of Long Island in which other Wall Street people reside. His family is Irish Catholic but he's really second generation successful. So his family came from proverty in Bronx, etc., and have racist thoughts that stem from class prejudices.

A black Wall Street guy and his family move close by, and the guy's wife (from a similar background) says she won't let her daughters play with the guy's kids 'cause they are black. She's clearly being racist, although the orgin of her beliefs stems from classism. And it's clearly being applied to some in a very high tax bracket.

In NY, you can work under the company license. I believe I read (but am not sure) that where he is in ohio every journeyman and apprentice are supposed to be licensed.

Agreed, but here's one example how it exists. I know a guy who works on Wall Street and does well for himself. He lives in a very, very nice area of Long Island in which other Wall Street people reside. His family is Irish Catholic but he's really second generation successful. So his family came from proverty in Bronx, etc., and have racist thoughts that stem from class prejudices.

A black Wall Street guy and his family move close by, and the guy's wife (from a similar background) says she won't let her daughters play with the guy's kids 'cause they are black. She's clearly being racist, although the orgin of her beliefs stems from classism. And it's clearly being applied to some in a very high tax bracket.
