in my opinion, its cool to occasionally bump an old thread for a joke. and it is encouraged instead of starting a new one on a similar subject.

but when a 5 year old thread with 3 posts is bumped for the word 'fart', its apparently frowned upon.

When it happens too much it ends up burying the threads that are actually active and it can slow down activity on the site because of it (primarily because the topics are old and most of the people who posted in them are no longer active). Nobody is saying threads can't be bumped; by all means, if somebody has something pertaining to the topic of the thread then bring it back. What we've always asked people not to do is to pointlessly resurrect old threads simply for the sake of doing so. That's been the attitude and policy for many, many years and we've made it clear numerous times so to melodramatically act like this is something the board "has become" is not realistic at all.

Understood, but not everyone is going to be as amused as you are by this. We've had about 5 pages worth of inactive threads tonight bumped for no reason. It's effectively the same as if you had started dozens of meaningless threads in a short sitting simply for the sake of post whoring. It's basically spamming/trolling the board.

I laughed at pretty much all of the ones I opened up. We seem to all be uniformly awful when we first showed up. I'm still as awful as I was...I just stop starting so many awful threads.

I think that thread would still be a good idea. Hell, it might even more embarassing for most of us since it would mean some of our terrible threads wouldn't get lost in the flood. I'll even sticky that mutha in the Lounge.

In the linked threads? No, you can accomplish the same thing by making fun of them in a single thread. If you link to them and/or quote them everyone can see what you're talking about. It's the same end result and the board doesn't get cluttered. Win-win for everyone.
