What does it say about Long Island that 2 of the 4 movies you listed deal with kid touchers, either as documentary or in fiction?

amityville horror
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/6/60/Amityvillecover.jpg

Whenever I see something about The Amityville Horror, I'm reminded of one wacky incident from my sheltered Long Island youth.

My father took me and my brother to see that movie when it was originally in theaters. I must've been about 9 or 10 years old.

It was scary. Especially when you factor in that my dad looked a lot like James Brolin at the time (with a little Cat Stevens in there too).

During the climax of those final scenes, my dad leans over to me and my bro and says "Ya know somethin' boys, this whole thing is a true story... and it all happened only a couple of miles from here."

Thanks a lot, Harry.

a bit of trivia, the airport scenes were show at the Westchester Airport because it looked nicer, and because Islip was under construction.

amity island, I believe, is a made up town, not on LI
though scenes from jaws were filmed off of LI

I think hampton island from Weekend at Bernie's is also a made up LI town

do these count?

well the reason i asked this question is because i was watching "Born on the Fourth of July" and i was thinking it was the definitive "Long Island Film" so I'm kinda looking for movies that take place in actual Long Island and the setting is very apparent throughout it. So if it was just filmed there but not really a real place i have no interest

Ah, gotcha...and I think the setting for Jaws (in the book) was somewhere near Cape Cod or something.

Being a Long Island guy, I am always amazed how often I am reading a book and Long Island comes up. I always thought we were in an isolated region when I was a kid and then it completely flipped when I became an adult.
I remember this girl movie I saw about a girl coming of age on Long Island but I cant remember the name of it. I kind of remember fireflies in the movie

Amity Island is a fictional LI local. It was filmed mostly on Marthas Vineyard. Peter Benchley was a Hamptons guy.

Long ISland towns don't have myors like in that movie. the towns are not structured that way.
they also don't have police forces like that.

Where was the money pit supposed to take place?

Closed down. It is a different bar now, but I don't remember the name because it actually changed names quite a few times. The garage (Joyal) has also moved recently, but the sign is still up.

The house is on Duck Pond Rd. Lattingtown is kind of between Glen Cove and Mill Neck, south of Locust Valley and north of Old Brookville

Cookie Voltecki (Emily Lloyd) is the illegitimate daughter of mobster Dino Capisco (Peter Falk), who has just finished thirteen years in prison. Since being released from jail, all that Dino wants is to settle some old scores, and make up for lost time with his daughter.

Cookie's mother, Lenore Voltecki (Dianne Weist), has been Dino's longtime mistress. Dino's actual wife Bunny (Brenda Vaccaro) has, he thinks, been kept in the dark about Dino's mistress and his daughter. Dino decides that the best way to get to know Cookie is to hire her as his chauffeur. With her ears to the conspiracies floating around Dino, she quickly discovers that her father's old crony, Carmine (Michael V. Gazzo), has been swindling him and that Dino's life is in jeopardy.

I heart Steve Buscemi so much! He graduated from Valley Stream Central High, Class of 1975 with my friends mom. He looked kinda different in high school. He was more built and was on the wrestling team, drama club and a few others. He also didn't look as kooky as he does now, probably cause of all the odd characters he plays. Anyway, friend's mom said he was very cool and nice and he wrote the nicest thing in her yearbook. I think she said they use to choreograph dance numbers in the parking lot for drama. I want to steal her yearbook now  :innocent:

From Wiki:
Buscemi (pronounced Boo-semi) was born in Brooklyn, New York, the son of Dorothy, who worked as a hostess at Howard Johnson's, and John Buscemi, a sanitation worker and Korean War veteran. Buscemi's father was Italian American and his mother Irish American. He has three brothers: Jon, Ken, and Michael. Buscemi was raised Catholic, but had given up on God by junior high school. He graduated in 1975 from Valley Stream Central High School in Valley Stream, New York, a school which he attended with actress Patricia Charbonneau and writer Ed Renehan. In high school, Buscemi wrestled for the varsity squad and participated in the drama troupe, at that time directed by Mr. Lynne C. Lappin. (Buscemi's 1996 film Trees Lounge, in which he not only starred but served as screenwriter and director, is set in and was largely shot in his childhood village of Valley Stream.
