On the scene with Bruce Campbell (http://popwatch.ew.com/popwatch/2008/10/bruce-campbell.html)

"Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the stage Mr. Bruce motherf---ing Campbell!" On Oct. 26 at the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, the beloved B-movie star hosted the premiere of My Name Is Bruce, the new camp horror film he directed, starred in, and exec-produced. (He also built the entire set on his 107-acre property in Oregon.) The event—three 180-seat screenings, which each sold out in minutes—kicked off a 22-city promo tour, with Campbell driving across the country in his 2003 Lincoln Aviator to personally introduce his latest self-proclaimed "stupid movie" in each city of its limited release (for tour dates, go to bruce-campbell.com (http://www.bruce-campbell.com/pilot.asp)).

If the crowd of film geeks chortled throughout Campbell's movie, they were rolling during his live wisecracking. At one point he encouraged the crowd to shout out which of his movies they most hated. "Man With a Screaming Brain!" hollered one fan. "Army of Darkness!" shouted another. "Spider-Man 2!" suggested more than a few people. "All right, you think you're all so smart?" said Campbell. Then he challenged them to play studio exec as he pitched one of his past projects. "I'm Frank Marshall," he began. "I've produced all of Steven Spielberg's movies. Interested? Okay, I've got a book written by Michael Crichton. I'm going to get John Patrick Shanley, the Academy Award-winning writer of Moonstruck, to adapt it. It'll be shot by Allen Daviau, who did E.T. Will you make this movie? Well, congratulations! You just made Congo."

OK.... I must see this.

I love Bruce Campbell as much as the next guy but I hope this is a lot better than the last movie he directed. The Man With the Screaming Brain was so painfully mediocre.

For those in NYC, he will be in the city this Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Sunshine Theater, premiering the movie. He will also do some Q&A afterwards (only for the 7:20 and the 9:30 showings).

I'm going to the Friday showing at 7:20. Anyone interested?

Would totally go see it except he skips my entire fucking state! I've been a huge Evil Dead and Army of Darkness fan since I was in middle school.

Unfortunately, I don't think there is a chance it could be better than that disaster which was Screaming Brain. And to think I actually TiVoed MWSB. Ugh!

i'm really annoyed that i have to work all weekend & i can't go to any of the screenings. i've been waiting on this movie for years. i may check out the one in boston, but with work that's pretty unlikely.

& to those who didn't like screaming brain i ask you: what did you expect from it???? the movie was perfect. & maybe i'm biased cause i love the man & he was standing behind me the whole time at the screening. but i thought the movie was just as great has he had hoped it to be. the campier the better i say. & with bruce that is exactly what you're going to get.

What I was most disappointed with about TMWTSB was the lack of good Bruce one liners. Since it was so campy and he wrote it, I figured there would be zingers flying all over the place. Also, considering how closely he worked with Sam Raimi I thought that his directing would have more visual flair, though I imagine that could have been hampered by the low budget. I thought Ted Raimi's character was annoying and painfully unfunny. Personally, what made the slapstick in Evil Dead work for me was the fact that it was contrasting the grim subject matter. Here it seemed silly, predictable and went on far too long.

I'm mad at myself. i decided to be a good student and go to class, instead of going to the studio and seeing Bruce Campbell.

Exactly. I'm such a big fan, i actually saw all the episodes of Hercules, Xena and Jack of all Trades just because of Bruce.

Bruce Campbell is the bee's knees.

He was great on O&A, and was the whole reason I started listening to that show in the first place.
He was on the show back in ye oldern days, and the only reason I left the station on after starting my car was I thought it was so fucking cool that this show had on Bruce Campbell.
I got hooked after listening to that one show.

And I will definitely be seeing this.
Fucking loved Bubba Ho-Tep.

How much of a bummer is it that Bruce isn't going to be in that Bubba Ho-tep sequel with Paul Giamatti?

"Don't make me use my stuff on you, baby!"

That does really suck.
That would be one I might actually leave my house and go to a theater for.

Bruce is also great in his role on Burn Notice, which is a surprisingly good show. I can't wait 'till Hulu puts up the second season so I can watch it.

I concur on both counts. I like how he somehow always manages to be Bruce Campbell in every thing he does but still pull off whatever character he is playing at the same time.

Burn Notice is pretty solid show for a USA network spy drama.
