Some people play ten innings, because they don't have the original headpiece.
You have to take back one inning to honor the Baseball gods whose game this is.

You need to go to a national league game, pretty much all AL games are too fucking long to sit through. You're also not watching baseball in that league. But your lucky you didn't go to an Amish League game, they play 13 and a half innings.

9 innings used to take two hours. Now the average game is almost 3 hours. It's not the innings, it's the longer breaks for tv, constant pitching changes, stepping out, stepping off, etc.

My, how things change.
From http://www.baseball-almanac.com/prz_lfr.shtml
On January 15, 1942, President Franklin Roosevelt penned the famous "green light" letter to then Commissioner Landis.
"Baseball provides a recreation which does not last over two hours or two hours and a half, and which can be got for very little cost." - President Franklin Delano Roosevelt

Paraphrased from John Thorn (baseball historian and statistician):
In the early days of baseball games were played until a set amount of runs were reached. 9 innings became the rule on March 7, 1857 by the National Association. Best guess why is that it was to match players and innings. Why nine players? I don't know, again that became a rule in 1857, Before that teams would play with 8, 9, 10, or even 11.

there are 9 innings because nine upside down is 6
three 6's are 666, the sign of the devil
so if you reverse the 6 back to 9 you are warding off the devil

Do yourself a favor and check this list (http://www.gncc.org/gnccclubs.html)to see if there is a curling club in your area. The seasons are starting now and they might be having open training. I was a member of the Ardsley Curling Club (3rd one down) for a year and a half, until I moved too far away.

a mile is 5280 feet because it is 1000 paces (mile being Latin for one thousand, pronounced me-lay. that's why they used M to represent one thousand in Roman numerals) the same standard that was used for the Roman foot was used to measure a pace (two full strides) which happened to come out at 5.28 feet, or 5,280 feet for 1000 paces.
