Unless we're chopping them in half to count the rings, my vote goes for "embarassing at best."

Don't get me wrong, I love all 3 bands, but classic punk and new wave groups have tended to age HORRIBLY. Elvis Costello and Joe Strummer are/were like the only exceptions I can think of. Shit, aren't all of the New York Dolls dead except for David?

I imagine the Damned will certainly be showing their age. But X still has it as a live act, and John Doe's last two solo albums were fantastic.

Dave Vanian still looks GREAT, because he is a VAMPIRE. I am VERY EXCITED about PUNK WEEK!
Predictions for Halloween: Nasty, like on Young Ones? Grimly Fiendish? I will have to get it on Tivo, because I have to go from bar to bar on Halloween, explaining who Lene Lovich is.

Fuck; a substantial portion of RF.N has reached their 30's HORRIBLY, so who gives flying liberty spike about how fat and ugly some legitimately ancient punk icons have become?

Life is fast but I don't wanna live past you, cause you are my only roots
I was the king of the drug booze thing now I've worn out the soles of my party boots
So call me shit-faced Master of Disgrace, I don't care cause my outer skin
Is thick like crust, and a liver that's rusted out, now I'm on a list
Everybody wants to give a shit outta me, I won't give it but I'll give ambivalence
I gotta memory box cause my memory blocks me, from remembering weeks
All the blacked out nights into white out mornings, into grey matter damagings
So call me Fat Fuck, geriatric punk rock, give it straight cause I deserve
a verbal beating from an audience bleating, and a melee with no concern
Everybody wants to give a shit outta me, I won't give it but I'll give irresponsiveness
Everybody wants to drag me up again, I wanna go, but the price keeps going up
Going down is simple and practical, laying low but keeping it cynical
I'm on the wagon and it's such a drag, without a key kick, shot, and a drag
Evidently no one likes a quitter or an old punk's bitterness
So I'm waiting for the tap, on my shoulder, cause we're all getting older not better
The laughs are no longer with us
So call me Fat Fuck geriatric punk,
call me Fat Fuck geriatric punk
call me Fat Fuck geriatric punk shit-faced master of disgrace

It's not how they look but how rock groups tend to perform and sound after a certain point, especially if their music thrived on having a rather "young and vital" vibe going for it.

Reunion tours for old punk, garage, or eighties indie acts can be boring but sometimes they sound just as great as they did a couple of decades ago. Iggy is still fun to see live. The Meat Puppets sounded just as good as when I saw them in 1985. I passed on seeing the Sonics at Cavestomp because I assumed they would be old and boring. I was wrong. Based on what my friends said and youtube, the concert was excellent and I wish I had gone. At this point, I will give any of my old favorite bands a try. Bad Brains are coming to town and I can't wait even though I hear HR's health isn't that good.

Im seeing Bad Brians election night in DC. I was at a party near Oakton VA a few weeks ago and walked into the living room and took a double take as HR was crashed on the couch. Then Skeeter ( bass player from SCREAM) walked in..I was like whoa - whose party is this anyway?... what a blast from the past it was.
But Im looking forward to the Brains on Nov 4TH

that's pretty cool.
how is HR? A friend of mine said he has some medical condition that has slowed him down a bit.

A medical condition beyond schizophrenia? I saw them in the early 90s when they had some guy called Joseph Israel (or something like that) singing, it was pretty good, but a little disappointing at the same time.

medical condition = age lol jk
He was slowed down alright. He was crashed on a couch. Out like a light and it was early like 8 or 9 - loud music blasting and he was sound asleep. But he's def slowed down a bit. I caught them a few years back and they still rocked but HR pretty much just stood there. Very different than when I would see them in 83/84 ha!

Stuff just costs money now, one of those bands is from England, they have name recognition and thus really would prefer not to have day jobs, you dont have security at a 3$ show, they expect to play through a decent PA system, they're demographic is no longer 14 year olds etc. Noone is getting rich from a 20$ cover, and you're still making out when you consider how much youd be paying to get that close to anyone else.

And in rare cases they can actually be better. Mission of Burma is somehow even more amazing now than they were in the 80's. I'd also argue that the guys in Fugazi got much better as they got older compared to thheir days in Minor Threat/Embrace/Rites of Spring.
Miss Fugazi.
Miss free shows at Fort Reno.

I just saw X on the Craig Fersuson show. Damn! What happened to Exene's face? It's all scrunched up and odd looking. She looks like those kitchen witch dolls.
They sounded great and DJ Bonebrake, Billy Zoom, and John Doe all look liked fine. But Exene? I had the biggest crushes on her and Kim Deal back in the eighties. Now I could be in line with Exene at a Safeway and never in a million years would I recognize her. I absolutely refuse to believe that she would have plastic surgery so she must have been in a car accident. I don't mind people getting old and putting on weight but she looked so different.

Zoe is going as a dinosaur, Dagney is going as a cow. As for the puppy, Ginger, we haven't really been able to find something that fits her correctly but she has been in the spirit as well.
