Upon the release of their new song, "Let's All Kill Each Other," which is available for free download at EnterTheSoulAsylum. com (http://www.EnterTheSoulAsylum.com) until Election Day, Soul Asylum's Dave Pirner wants to say a few words to the people...
"Ah yes, a joyous new anthem for every occasion. It really seems to connect, at least to the 7 people who have heard it so far. I suppose it requires a certain sense of humor. This, of course, is consistent with my tendency to overestimate the intelligence of our audience.
Over the last couple years of playing live, I've taken to introducing "Black Gold" & "Lately" as commentaries on the Bush Sr. & Jr. eras, respectively, as Parts 1 & 2 of a trilogy that I hoped I would never have to finish. This is Part 3.
Anyway, it's been a good summer. On behalf of the band, many thanks to you and anyone who has helped make it so. Your support, as always, is invaluable and humbling.
Let's all learn to live in peace and two or three-part harmony!
Good luck,
Dave Pirner"

Huh...I know it's kind of easy these days to poke fun at the intelligence of the typical American, especially the mid-western/red state rube...but it's seems kind of douchey to say something like that about your own target audience.
Now, I'm not a Soul Asylum fan & I don't know if Dave Pirner is just a quirky guy & their fans would understand & get a chuckle out of that statement, but I can't imagine not being insulted by that statement.
Oh well, I'm not his audience so I don't really give a fuck. Just my 2¢.

I dunno, assuming anyone who listens to Soul Asylum is stupid seems like a fairly safe assumption to me.

The problem with Soul Asylum has always been that their weakest member is the front man. In the early loud and fast Replacements-ish days, it wasn't a problem that Pirner couldn't write a decent lyric since you couldn't hear the lyrics anyway. But as they mellowed, his overuse of cliches became more and more apparent.
They're still a decent live act, but I'd love to see guitarist Dan Murphy make a solo album, or turn Golden Smog into a full-time band.

an yet somehow...the first Soul Asylum album that Dan Murphy wasn't credited w/ writing any songs on- or co-writing was also the first Soul Asylum album to go triple platinum and spent over 75 weeks on the billboard charts. Go figure.

turn Golden Smog into a full-time band.
My name is TheMojoPin, and I approve of this message.

This sounds like the soundtrack for an amusement park commercial to me, an amusement park specializing in water rides.
