I'm a few minutes away from finishing Stranger Than Fiction, and it's horrible. It's only redeeming quality is the music, which includes a number of tracks by Spoon, along with tracks by Wreckless Eric and the Jam. In fact, the only memorable scenes are those featuring these songs.
So what other movies are almost saved by the soundtrack?

But they weren't really great songs. I love those acts, and have the soundtrack, but it's more of a novelty that these bands did kiddy songs.

It's not so much that the movie was bad, it just didn't feel like much of a movie to me, was more like a bunch of music videos strung together with a bit of plot. But the music was so great that I went back as soon as it was done and watched the whole thing over again.

I don't know. I love both equally but maybe the movie would be lacking if the soundtrack wasn't that good.

OK, i either have terrible taste in movies or i will really watch anything and not have a sour opinion about it because those were all good movies IMO.

pfffft. Repo Man was a fucking great movie.
Without A Paddle, however, was an amazingly bad movie that I only rented because Eyehategod was on the soundtrack, I have no idea what the rest of the soundtrack was like...
Gummo, the soundtrack was way better than the movie, which wasn't too bad itself, featuring Burzum, Sleep, Spazz & Eyehategod, amongst others.

Awful movie with a great soundtrack (fIREHOSE, Giant Sand, Yo La Tengo, Pixies, Lemonheads, Alex Chilton, Schooly D, Uncle Tupelo, Throwing Muses)
edit: and I love Repo Man the movie.

Singles was a good movie, are you guys googling answers to this thread?
Repo man.
Plate of shrimp, MF; plate of shrimp. Repo Man=best film ever made.
Howevs, I wouldn't necessarily call a collection of likeable songs a good soundtrack. A lot of the soundtracks discussed here may as well be someone's iPod playlist. In a way, what are being discussed here are NOT soundtracks but collections of songs which happen to be in movies. Certainly the success of the Pulp Fiction soundtrack launched a thousand lazy film directors to buy rights rather than use original music to help move the story of a film. Pulp Fiction actually worked on a soundtrack level because the selection was relatively obscure and may as well have been composed specifically for the film. Wes Anderson is another director who pulls together some interesting textures with his left-field picks. Sadly, that is not the case with most pop-song-laden soundtracks. Using known songs in a soundtrack seems like cheating in a way and may even be the reason a film is bad.
I happen to love the film "Ravenous," which I would accept as possibly being a "bad" film, but the Michael Nyman/Damon Albarn soundtrack is fantastic and weird, and may be largely why I will watch the film (no, I think it's brilliant). Or the film "Kafka" which is too pretentious for its britches, has a great "Third Man" inspired soundtrack by Cliff Martinez. I know there will forever be a debate about the viability of "Rumblefish" as a "good" movie, but the Stewart Copeland soundtrack is unquestionably solid. And I'll watch that fucking "Angel Heart" piece of garbage for the Trevor Jones soundtrack.
Happy Rex Manning Day
Goddammit, that movie kicks ass.
HaHa!
I knew somebody was gonna get mad about that. I'm glad it was you.

One of the main reasons this movie hit screens in the first place was due to the soundtrack and all of the $$$ it would generate in sales. Irving Azoff is a genius.

And I'll watch that fucking "Angel Heart" piece of garbage for the Trevor Jones soundtrack.
Goddammit, that movie fucking rules, too.
And I think you're talking about scores instead of soundtracks, yes?
Yes, soundtracks are largely redundant today due to downloadable music, but I think is allowing us to remember when they actually had an impact. Plus, most of the albums being picked had a bunch of rare or exclusive tracks.

There's also Valley Girl, although there wasn't an official soundtrack until almost 15 years later. But that terrible movie was my introduction to the Plimsouls, Gary Myrick, and Modern English's "I Melt With You" (although its overuse in movies now makes me never want to hear it again).

The Taco Bell commercial saturation is what killed it for me.
