Does anyone know if you can and how to rearrange songs as to the ofder they are played? I find that no matter how they are downloaded the ippd will play an album in its own order disregarding the original order they appeared on an album. I don't really want to create a playlist to play an album as an artist intended. Anybody know if there is a solution. The blackberry is worse it just plays songs in alphabetical order. GRRRR

Right click on any of the column headers of your library. Select "track #" as a column if it isn't already selected. Then, you can click on the "track #" column header to order your album by track number.

edit: oops. I was thinking about fixing in iTunes. See paulisdead's post below. Change your settings.

Which type of Ipod are you using? If you're using an Ipod classic, just change the shuffle settings. If you want a permanent change of order, do what Mikeyboy says.

Shuffle should be set to off if it's the same as other models.

It was set to off and it plays in the order it wants. I downloaded songs for a couple of Van Morrison albums then later on filled out the whole albums for completeness and thats where it doesn't play in order.

Hmmm. Check how the tracks are listed in iTunes. It's possible that there was a slight change in the new tracks that prevents them from playing in order -- maybe the old and new track numbers are in two different formats. If that's the case, manually change the info in iTunes to get the order to play correctly. At the very least, check to see if iTunes lists the tracks in order.

Update
I put the ipod on Album Shuffle mode and the songs are playing in proper album order

Thanks Mikeyboy and paulisded.

This all started when Ron talked about Van Morrison doing the show in LA where he was going to perform Astral weeks in total and I was listening to it and the songs were out of order.
I am now complete.

lock this if youd like

It sounds to me like your individual files don't have any track numbers. If that's the case, just right-click and choose "Get Info". There you will be able to insert the proper track numbers.

I do wish there was a data plan for the Itouch, so I could listen to streaming Last.FM or radio in my vehicle.

Yeah, if only there were a model of the iPod that could, say, connect to a cellular network. An iPhone, if you will.

I can't get an Iphone here...plus, they don't make one big enough for my needs. Even the 32 gig itouch really doesn't work for me.

i really wish they'd just make a larger model to hold a normal hard drive...sort of like the last iteration of the classic had a thin and thicker model.... for your size queens.

You don't have Apple, AT&T or Best Buy stores in South Dakota? You can get one in Latvia, Turkey, Uruguay, Liechtenstien, Estonia, Colombia, Guatemala, Mexico, Philippines...

AT&T don't have enough towers here, so they're not offering iphone service.

Plus, as I said, they don't make an Iphone that even comes close to acceptable storage space.

That sucks. So do they offer other phones in SD?

Yes, they do. AT&T is the only one that doesn't.

itunes question:

this has been bugging me since july ... why won't the number of songs in my music library match the songs on my ipod ...?

the count is always off by a small number 3, 5, or even 1 ... it seems to vary as i add things to the library ... dupicates don't really seem to be a factor

any help ...?

I'm guessing that you have a few files that won't/don't sync and you have the "warnings" for that set to "off", or it's counting movies/podcasts in one place & not the other.

my own ipod problem lately is that every once in a while when I plug my ipod in, it gives me some shit about not recognizing it & the only thing I can do is a full "restore", which takes about 4 or 5 hours on an 80GB classic with a pile of shit Dell P4 computer. cocksucker device.

donnie_darko

yeah badorties, you probably ignored a warning message at some point, so now it doesn't display it.

Also check to see if you have any exclamation marks near your songs, you may just have some missing files as well.

biozombie, you should try to defrag and reformat your ipod the next time it happens, for some reason your hd sounds like its getting corrupted...

When that happens to me I usually just try again and it works fine.

I originally had my own 80 gig setup w/ the iTunes application on my computer w/ the songs ( 5,700+ ) all stored on an external drive.

Well that has since been stolen and I bought my wife an 8 gig Nano for Christmas.

I was able to set it up so that I could manually add the songs she wanted ( by using the check/uncheck and sync mode ) but what I want to know is when I do get around to getting another larger gig iPod will I still have to do that w/ he new one ?

I can't leave it as automatically synching because it'll obviously tell me that the 8 gig isn't large enough to sync the full library.

Can you create " profiles " for each user under the same iTunes application ?

Is it possible to have 2 versions of the iTunes application, one for each iPod, on the desktop ?

The last time I tried the second option it would only open as whichever application I downloaded most recently.

I create a separate play list for each iPod and set each iPod to only sync to the desired play list rather than the entire library.

I'm a bit confused - you first say the nano is manually set up but then you say it's synced. If it is manually set up, then it will remain that way unless you change the setting.

If I were you, I'd just have both ipods set to manual update. Then you can and subtract songs from either (and from itunes) at will without worrying about messing either up.

I create a separate play list for each iPod and set each iPod to only sync to the desired play list rather than the entire library.

So you're essentially making the entire library for each iPod a playlist ?

Say " Nano Playlist " w/ 1,500+ songs and a " Touch Playlist " w/ 5,700= songs ?

That's exactly why I have all of my ipods (my three plus the one my son owns) set for manual. I can't imagine setting up giant playlists for 2 32 gig itouches plus 40 gig and 160 gig ipods.
