for the past few weeks, i've been getting robo-calls on my phone with a recorded message saying that "my factory warranty was about to expire". it leaves a number that i'm supposed to call to prevent this from happening. since a) it doesn't say what the warrenty is for, b) i don't own anything that's currently under warranty, and c) a few other people in my office have gotten the same call, it's obviously voice-spam.
i did a google search on the caller id number, and it turns out it's a scam (yes, really!!!). apparently, if you call the number they give, you get connected to an operator that tries to get a credit card or bank account number from you to extend your non-existent warranty.
has anyone else gotten this call? or worse, has anyone been scammed by this type of thing? i can't imagine anyone being so gullible as to give a credit card number to someone from an unsolicited robo-call call back number.
now if you'll excuse me, i have a very important email from the prince of Nigeria that i must respond to...
