My anti-virus and anti-spyware protection are outdated. No matter how many times I update and reboot I keep getting the same message.
IS AVG just having yet another bad week????? :wallbash:

Been happening on a few computers I've used over the past few hours. For some reason it gets stuck in update mode, and if you actually open the program and look at the update status, it will say that it has to reboot to finish the update. Could be a bad update or patch, jus keep trying. :/
I had been getting the "need to reboot" message from AVG for months. I finally got tired of it, uninstalled AVG and downloaded avast. It seems to be working great so far.

I gotta be honest. I am up in the air about almost all of the antivirus programs out there. I run AVG in the background, and if I see that it is having a problems with updates I just ignore it. I didn't like Avast. I would rather be dead then put McAfee or Norton on my computers.
The best antivirus programs out there cost money, and are listed here: http://anti-virus-software-review.toptenreviews.com/
I've used all of the top 3, but uninstalled them after a while. I am a resource fiend, and all three of those programs used a lot. AVG Free uses the least amount normally (i think, unless that changed), so I kinda don't care if it blows ass sometimes.

Think I found the issue. This is for AVG 8.0. You have to open the AVG Command Center/User Interface, and run an update from there. You should be given two options: Definition Update or Software Update. Choose Software Update, and it may/should work. DId for me.

I'm also an Avast convert. I was having the problems with AVG giving me the false threats, and a friend of mine contacted me today about the same issue Fuzzy is having. Avast has been working great for me.

I love Nod32 - it's not freeware, but it can be found for free on various torrent sites.
it's well worth the $$, however.
