First off, before I say anything - this website isn't just another kind of myspace or facebook, but more of a business networking site. It's similar in the sense that your colleagues and friends can join up but it's also supposedly an excellent resource for marketing yourself and trying to get a new job. I had a fake account made about a year ago when someone told me about it and then I read articles about how effective it is so I joined it just to try it out. It's largely a free site, there are features that cost money but I don't use them.

Essentially it's a way to put your resume online for people to find and is quickly becoming the standard new way to do it. People also get to add recommendations about you which is very cool for referrals and for use on job interviews. Since I'm losing my job very soon I've been building up my profile and making connections with a lot of people I "used" to work with. I recently went for a career workshop which was very good and the instructor also touted the site and said it's a must these days to put yourself on LinkedIn.

If you're on LinkedIn or are thinking of joining check out my profile (http://www.linkedin.com/in/tonyfata). If you want to link up, send me an invite.

I am and I know of many people that are and have gotten legitimate and well written references and recommendations on the site. It is definitely a good tool.

I'm on it, but I haven't anything with it. My intention is to use it to stay in contact with former co-workers and customers. I'm a procrastinator though.

I have a LinkedIn profile, very basic at the moment. I was considering putting a head-shot into it because I'm concerned that my profile won't be taken as seriously if I don't use all the available features, but I am not 100% comfortable with the idea that my face will be searchable online.

I'd read a good article about LinkedIn, and know quite a few people who have profiles there, but would like to ask one or two of them before I randomly add them as contacts because I don't work directly with them. We simply share a common cause.

Once I get my act together, I would be delighted to add you as a contact, man.
