Sox are on fire, if it wasn't for that drop by Lopez this could have been an amazing streak.
Posted these in the HCPG thread earlier in the week, but Heidi deserves to be in this thread.

I'm sorry, I know this is old, but I keep seeing it at the top of the page.
The steal was amazing, but is it really impressive that it amazed "even John Miller?"
John Miller is a old idiot.
He's probably amazed when Joe Morgan doesn't strangle himself with his mic cord.
I just meant that his reaction was one of surprise like the rest of us: like, "holy shit did that just happen?".
Lester's shaky start concerned me but I love the way this team keeps fighting back. It was nice to see them pull it off last night after almost doing so the game before where Penny shit the bed.

I got a chance to see Daniel Bard pitch last night. He was consistently hitting 95-96 and racked up 4 K's in a couple of relief innings and looks like he could be the next big thing out of the Sox minor leagues.

And when Garza is on, he's fucking filthy. He has five plus pitches.
Nice job by our "Ace".
It's great to see the tables have turned and the Rays now own the Sox.

I havent read an actual book in awhile... I think I may pick up Teammates.
I woke up early this morning delighted to see that there was not only a baseball game but it was the Sox game. My joy turned to anger as I saw Jon Lester get rocked for 8 runs.
Got to see some of the Sox-Angels early this morning. Nice comeback!

NESN said something along the lines of the Angels have the best starting pitching ERA and the worst bullpen ERA in the league.
It was proven last night.
Shoulda kept K-Rod.

I still think he is going to pull out of this horrible slump at some point. As long as they are still winning consistently I would leave him right where he is in the lineup.

Agreed. Of course we were all hoping he'd hit a grand slam last night and be back, he didnt. And neither would anyone else in the lineup....maybe. But Francona has a history of allowing players the time they need to snap out of it; Cant think of a better player with whom to continue that tradition.

What do Red Sox think of Youkilis ? Im sure you love him because he hits all the time but he seems to be an insuferable douche bag to the outside obvoiusly Im biased as a Yankee fan but he seems like he would even drive his own teammates nuts. I know he mixed it up with Manny one time.

Youk is really, really hard on himself. He's such a perfectionist that if he doesn't hit 1.000, he's pissed. That's what makes him such a great ball player. But it does look douchy when he's pissed in the dugout all the time. But I don't really care.

He plays hard and plays to win. You can't fault that.
ChrisTheCop
05-24-2009, 10:20 PM
Yep. If beating himself up every time he doesnt get a hit helps him drive in some runs the next time, I'm all for it. And yeah, he was the only one willing to put Manny in his place toward the end there.
He's got one of the best eyes in the game, and of all players, I have the least problem with him questioning the umps.
Especially Sunday afternoon when he returned from the clubhouse to see his foul ball really was a homerun like he thought.
Ortiz on the other hand, has become uncomfortably comical when questioning umps calls.
It's getting really heartbreaking.
What's not to love about him ? He plays the game it is meant to be played.
I think the emotional displays in the dugout are a lot calmer this year but they are just highlighted by the media because it makes for good tv.
By the way, I only saw a couple of the replays but I didn't see anything to be able to say if the ball was fair or foul. Yeah one of the views looked inside the foul pole but that could well have been a matter of the camera angle.

The Red Sox got a colossal break last night, though.
That game was over....Dobbs' ball was a home run.
I don't know how they don't review that.
Looked alot like the one in Fenway earlier this year that Youk hit. That one was reviewed and eventhough it tailed in to the fair area of the monster seats it was ruled foul.
Very Cool! Was it scheduled, or you just happened across it? What a find! I'm happy for you. I had to listen on my Iphone, and only in parts.
No, I just happened across it. The hotel has a FOX sports channel but they rarely show baseball on there.

I liked him better when he was known as the owner who never talked.
He's got a long way to go to reach Steinbrennerian proportions however.

It's hard to imagine, after looking at the replay a bunch of times, the Dobbs ball hitting where it did without hooking over the foul poll, if you look at the trajectory of it. It's not going to suddenly slice more at the very end.
How do they not have a camera that tracks it down the line, and a camera perpendicular to determine if it goes behind or in front of the poll, if MLB is serious about instant replay?
Oh well...they crushed the Phils last night so I can't complain about that one.

You Yankee homers are so bad. You're like a mini-BDC when it comes to the Yankees.
Ask anyone outside of the northeast about ESPN. They'll tell you that its biased towards the northeast.
Thats because the Northeast is the most important part of this country hayseed. LOL
In other news, just scored myself a free ticket to the game today. Fuck you Red Sox.

Awfully frustrating inning for Josh Beckett.

I mean, what fanbase DOESN'T applaud a beloved who didn't leave under ugly circumstances player that returns down the line?
Shit, if that's the criteria for "classy," then maybe the Cardinals' fans are "the best in baseball." Those freaks give every former player a standing ovation no matter how shitty or how they left.

first, I asked mojo to explain himSELF, which he did, but ok
Brett mojo wants to explain mojo, if mojo's ok with that I dont see a problem.
Now. Are these supposed to be incidents of Red Sox fans not being classy?
Lets see....
1. A lone Red Sox fan in a sea of Orange clad Oriole fans is taunted and threatened,
and defends himself... class is not devoid of honor, nor self-preservation.
2. I'll admit it aint pretty, but it aint L.A. And if NYY ever win again, I bet you'll
get some similar reactions.
3. How is this without class? If you mean the man at the plate, or the fans back home
who welcomed him back, perhaps, but this is supposed to be about the Sox fans,
who are merely stating a fact. And, it was pretty humorous.
4. Talk about humor! This is on the NESN highlight reel for Remy and Orsillo!
It's hilarious, and it's stated the perpetrator was a pat's fan... not a sox fan.
I'm sure mojo appreciates the attempt, but he did much better by himself, as himself.

I dunno. But these are the kind of charges that sometimes lead to...bad things,

yeh but based on his numbers if he has a productive next ten years he'll get close, and im sure he'll stick around to get the extra few needed but yeh the view from here isnt looking good
i wonder if over the next ten+ years they'll have to lower it to around 250-275 since with all the specialists we have now theres a less likely chance to see 300 game winners

Not exactly surprising, but breaking, news.
Julio Lugo is not in Toronto with The Sox, and may have seen his last game with them.
I'm sad because I always had great hopes for this guy, and they never panned out.
And at Spring training this year he seemed so eager, and I thought it was gonna happen for him, but he got injured again, and of course was replaced by 2 guys, both better than him.
He did however, score me 'family seat' tickets to one game at yanker stadium (remember that place?)
Thank you Julio, and good luck wherever you end up.
I hope he can be traded rather than just cut loose. That's going to be a pricey divorce.

Its the reason the braves wouldnt give him a guaranteed contract, they got tired of paying him for being on the DL at the end of every year, wasted money.
And he wont be effective as a closer since he blames that for his arm problems now, but it may be the only way he makes the HOF.

He was cruising right along last night until that sixth inning when the shit hit the fan.
I have a feeling he is going to be going to the pen and Bucholtz will be taking his spot in the rotation. They will end up trading one of the bullpen arms they have right now, maybe even Masterson, who has been pretty shaky lately.

They just signed a Cuban SS who is supposedly a defensive wizard, so maybe this kid had no chance of moving forward in the organization.
Who knows, it seems Laroches second half numbers are usually pretty decent, so it might be a good pickup.
It must really suck to be a Pirates fan. If they keep it up, they are going to turn over the majority of the opening day starting lineup.

Not so much trading away prospects as a horrible record of keeping the SS position manned full-time between injuries and trades. Yeah, Lowrie is the future right now but if he goes down again is Nick Green going to be here long enough to back him up?

According to a report on Yahoo! Sports, the Red Sox offered a package of pitchers Clay Buchholz and Michael Bowden and minor league outfielder Ryan Westmoreland to Toronto for Blue Jays ace Roy Halladay. The report goes on to say the Red Sox may be trying to get a third team involved in order to acquire the shortstop that Toronto covets, and that the Red Sox have declared pitchers Casey Kelly and Daniel Bard "off-limits".
Hmm...
Also, Kotsay sent to White Sox for outfielder Brian Anderson (http://www.weei.com/sports/boston/this-just-in/212970/kotsay-sent-white-sox-outfielder-brian-anderson)

I would be pretty pleased if they could get Halladay for that package.
If they did, that would mean that they would have both Beckett and Halladay as free agents at the end of next year. Could they possibly resign both of them ? If not which one do they concentrate on ?

being that they both already make pretty good money and boston makes a ton, yea id say they can afford both. Thats not to say they are going to want to pay both, but they could afford it. Especially since I think Papi is up then too

True, they could afford both of them, they have trimmed their payroll over the last few years, and Papi is coming up for renewal next year, but Papi has took relatively short money the last time he resigned so I don't know that his salary savings would make much of an impact. And if they let him go, they'll need to get a big bat too.
Yeah, the Yanks can afford 2 big salary pitchers, but their revenue is in another universe compared with anyone else. Including the Red Sox.
I'm glad I'm not Theo.

Papelbon has been pretty iffy this year.
Maybe he needs to worry a little more about closing out games and less about setting the bar when it comes to salary for closers, especially with an up and coming Bard looking like the heir apparent.
Nice job Paps. Ass.
The Rice ceremony was very cool -- and long overdue. I still wish management would change the rules for retiring a jersey because a lot more belong up there.
And the Sox get Brian Anderson for Mark Kotsay. (http://boston.redsox.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090728&content_id=6106786&vkey=news_bos&fext=.jsp&c_id=bos)I think I'll write my best friend about that who is cousins with Anderson.

Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz, the sluggers who propelled the Boston Red Sox to end an 86-year World Series championship drought and to capture another title three years later, were among the roughly 100 Major League Baseball players to test positive for performance-enhancing drugs in 2003, according to lawyers with knowledge of the results.
