I've seen the classics (excorcist, hellraiser, etc...), I like monsters, but not the cheesy ones (Jeepers Creepers as a monster was not bad), and I don't particularly like the "new" slasher flicks...
So what horrror movie should watch?

Dawn of the Dead
The fact that you said Hellraiser under the 'classics' category before Dawn proves that you must see it still
And even if you already saw it, it's one of those rare horror movies that you can re-watch

good choice! thats the "bloodiest movie" ever made (at one point they were pumping out fake blood at 40 gal/sec)...but it is more of a comedy than anything else
Have you seen "the devils rejects"?

seen it. meh. Gary Olamn is amazing, and it's always cool to spot Tom Waits in a movie, but I can't get past Rider or Reeves.

I watched this today. I grew up in the area that the movie was filmed. It is very surreal seeing 2 zombies eat a guys guts, on the same exact spot you sat on Santa's lap.
I am talking about the original that was filmed in Pittsburgh and Monroeville,PA

Let us know how that is. I didn't see Quarantine but I do have an interest in REC - I accidentally saw the trailer last year and was a bit interested.
Otherwise - See Werner Herzog's Noferatu. Klaus Kinski offers the most frightening version of a vampire the world has ever seen.

I recommend the following:
Hatchet (not because its scary but as in cool kills)
High Tension
The Descent
The Audition
The Ruins (I enjoyed it but a lot of people didn't)
Devil's Rejects/House of a 1000 Corpses
Suspiria
Wolf Creek
I also enjoy the Saw series but not many people do.

If you want to see a bad ass horror flick that is unique and bloody as hell....
FEAST!

I also recommend The Grudge, The Machine Girl (a Japanese revenge flick that is so over the top you have to see it to believe it), Ginger Snaps (1 and 2), House of 1000 Corpses and The Devil's Rejects, Slither, Ring and Hostel.
There are others, but these have been the best to come out in the recent years IMO.

Get on IMDB, look for anything starring
Peter Cushing
Christopher Lee
Vincent Price
Hammer Productions (Hammer House of Horror)
Guaranteed winners for every decade of creepy and cheesy since black-and-white movies. And most of those movies will have tits.

I liked "The Frighteners" but I had a thing for Michael J. Fox back then, so I was a little biased.I heard that some of the scenes in that movie were so frieghtening to film he shakes at the mere thought of them to this day..
Also, I think that was the movie that his action figure was just a picture of his face glued to a vibrator..
Although, I might be wrong on both accounts..

Was decent for a horror flick, they talk a little fast at times so its hard to follow along with the subtitles in a few scenes. The final scene was real good.

I enjoyed The Frighteners, too, but that was mostly because it didn't take itself too seriously.
And Crispin Glover is hilarious in it. So are John Astin and Chi McBride.
I just don't think of it as a "horror" movie, though. It's got its scary moments, but it's just not scary overall.
For a spooky ghost movie, I prefer The Uninvited.
Nonsense.

Another movie that doesn't take itself too seriously. Love it. John Landis was touched by the gods.
This was on a constant rotation with Silver Bullet (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090021/) (loosely based on Stephen King's novella Cycle of the Werewolf (http://www.amazon.com/Cycle-Werewolf-Signet-Stephen-King/dp/0451822196/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1224592926&sr=8-1)) ... I love both movies. Again, they don't take themselves too seriously. And it's got both Corey Haim AND Gary Busey in it. How can it go wrong???
